    Default Updates on me!

Almost one year ago today I hurt my back at work. Doc said I had a disc then went outta place blah blah...

Went to neurosurgeon. He said lets cut as soon as I met him and was like WTF?! So he backed off and I rehabbed for about 5/6 months. All was going good and one day BAM! No good anymore! Off to DR visit...surgery it is!
4/20/09 Lamenotomy/Discektomy L5/S1 and a month of mainly bed rest/home imprisonment and things were getting good. More rehab and things are looking up!

At the end of september I was released to go back to work! Sooo much happier now. During this whole time I kinda crawled into a hole. It was fun at first not working but then it just sux. Spent a ton of cash, built lots of new toys(rifles) and bought more toys(handguns) and just hung out. Kinda got a little on the depressed side and it just sucked. After the surgery I got wicked weird pains and they put me on nerve medicine which helped but made me miserable!! Got off of that ASAP but pain came back.

Now I am doing much better. Still love my cigars, Cigars still fall out of the cabinet when I open it! LOL and all the desktops and converted ammo cans and the locker at the cigar shop are filled to the brim. The hot florida summer and the pain meds kinda took away the enjoyment of cigars. Now I am back. Cooler weather in FL is starting to be seen on the horizon. The humidors will begin to dwindle once again!

I hope everyone is good. Just wanted to give you guys an update on the last year. I kinda feel outta place not posting here very much. Hopefully that changed. Good peeps on this board.

Good to see you my friend!

Never fun going under the knife, but I'm glad it seems to have worked out for the best.

oh yea. Still have lots of work to do regarding stamina and strength but anyone who was a slug for almost a year would have that issue. I hit the gym 2-4 times a week depending on my work schedule.

I still limit myself to make sure nothing is putting strain on back to heavily. I have special exercises to slowly strengthen it up without hurting it. I just keep looking at the light at the end of the tunnel when I can dust of the brand new set of Irons I got for my bday last year and only went to the range ONCE before I got hurt.

Glad to hear you're doing better. I was skiing a couple of years ago when I hit a tree, and realized I'm not as young as I used to be when I didn't just bounce back up.

At the very least, you have a nice firearm collection though, right?

I know exactly what you mean... I had a miss-diagnosed severe ankle injury in 2004, diagnosed as a class 3 sprain, bone was actually split up the middle. After 8 weeks the MRI finally showed it. Had to have surgery to re-break and pin, and a big incision on my hip where they got bone material to graft in.

Took me until last year before I could walk without a noticeable limp. Lost ALL my lower body strength, even with all the therapy.

But hey.. I'm enjoying learning to swing the clubs all over again too!

I had the same procedures on L4/L5 adn L5/S1 about 25 years ago. Pay attention to your rehab, and particularly the stretches. I still do them every morning.

I've heard to do the stretches everyday. I am guilty of not doing them! I really need to keep it up. I go to the gym but still doesn't go near what I need for stretching. I should probably just force myself to do them every morning...maybe treat myself to a cigar if I do?

I used to work with a guy that lifted a larger laser printer and he messed his back up pretty good. Glad to hear you're okay, AND have a nice gun collection to boot!
