Default anyone know the business model of cigarbid.com

My buddy just called and b*tched me out. He is now ordering cigars like crazy off of cigarbid.com. What is the business model of this compnay? Do they buy cigars off of stores or wholesalers and or do the stores and wholesalers put the lots on there? Are they being shipped out of a centralized location? Whatever the case it is a good concept.

If I remember correctily, somebody around here pointed out that cbid is owned by cigarsinternational.com. So, you might want to check that site (as well as a few others) before placing your bid...I'm sure that every once in a while people are "winning" cigars from cbid that they could be buying from its parent site for less.

Yes, CigarBid is part of/owned by/same company as CigarsInternational.

Hefty is 100% correct, lots of dopes pay MORE for their cigars when they "win" them on a CigarBid auction for MORE than full retail on the CI site.

    CI loves idiots!

Thanks CC, I wasn't for sure and I'm glad I wasn't throwing bad information out there.

No, I'm sure he knows it's for a "single" just as the ad says. The assholes who buy Anejos on CigarBid are known for paying three to four times MSRP so this is nothing new.

BTW, MSRP for an Anejo 48 is $8.00 a stick. Every box I've bought I've paid $200.00 for. Anejos 48 are great $8.00 cigars but they are NOT worth much more than that.

I like it, but you have to know what the cigars are worth before you dance with the devil. Check out Cigarcyclopedia's comparison shopper list. It shows currents prices for some of the big internet retailers and should give you a good idea of what you should or should not pay for the cigars.

Today, Rich at Tobacco Republic told me something about CI and CBID. Now realize that it's in his interest to make me want to buy from him instead of CBid.

In any case he said that essentially ALL of the CBid Rocky Patels are 2nds. I mentioned that the only 1990 Vintage that I've had was blocked and almost impossible to smoke. He said that was an example of what to expect from the online stores, especially CBid.

Now, as I said, he may be blowing smoke up my a$$. I've smoke quite a few sticks from CBid that were just fine. I'll smoke another RP Vintage 1990 this week. If it's not blocked then I have a counter example to his proposal.

In any case, the real reason we call it the Devil Site is because it's so easy to spend big buck$ on cigars.

I never said that. Just because we pointed out that some of their "customers" are idiots, doesn't mean we don't "like it."

I haven't bought anything from CigarBid in years because they don't sell anything I want to buy like Opus X, Padron 1926 and Anejos. Oh excuse me, they DO offers Anejos but why should I pay $30.00 each for 48s when I can get them for $8.00?

If I want Toranos, I buy them from Hex. For the rare times I buy other domestics, I buy them from a retailer who offers me boxes of Anejos for MSRP. Sure I pay a couple of dollars more per box that I could from CigarBid but guess what, these retailers will call me when they get their boxes of Anejos in.

So, I have no use for CigarBid. If others do, fanfreakintastic!

I love CBid and have bought most of my cigars from them. I am always careful to be patient and wait for good deals. There is an ebb and flow to the site; if you pay attention you can detect the low cycles and buy your cigars then.

I would never buy Anejos from them unless I accidently cut my finger off with my cutter and I was in such pain that the blood caused me to accidently slip and hit the enter the keyboard in such a way as to place a bid.

C-bid is a place to buy certain cigars, nothing more-nothing less.

You shop JR's for some cigars, Atlanta's for others, 2-Guys for some, etc., etc..

They all offer "specials" and 2 fer ones and deals, and different availability, you just gotta shop.

Only difference in C-bid, is that it in an auction format, but by and large there is a market price for the cigars they offer.

The $50 single stick auctions are a whole different kettle of fish and probably involves a whole lot of booze .
In spite of all evidence to the contrary, the entire universe is composed of only two basic substances: Magic and bullshit.
