another humidor question

i have one of those humidifiers that come with cheap humidors. (green foam in plastic with holes) it stays at a perfect 70. is there any way i can reduce it the humidity using my humidifier?

Well I'm not sure whats wrong with keeping it at 70%, but anyhow, if I understood your question correctly, I'd suggest taking it out of the humidor and leaving the humidifier to dry for a day or two, yet keeping a close eye on your humidor, then when it starts to drop to the % you want, put the humidifier back in and see how it goes . I'm assuming you've over wet it, so it just needs to dry.

I have monkeyed around with varying rh%'s and found I actually prefer a higher rh. But of course everyone's taste is different!

Drake......I don't know of any way using foam to affect rh to the low side except possibly allowing to dry out just a bit as the previous poster suggested - OR, now that I think of it, you could try reducing the size of the piece of foam in the puck. That might work!!!

Or you could try the Climmax beads whcih can be obtained to regulate to either 65% or 70% rh. Check out the info at the following link:

Climax beads are the best way to go to reduce the rh% - they have 65 and 70% beads. The beads will hold the humidity damn near right at what they're designed to.

As far as why you'd want to go below 70% - 65 is actually more ideal with some cigars. ISOM's seem to smoke better kept on the drier side (60-65%). I've found that keeping cigars at 70% tends to cause burn problems. I try to keep mine at 65% and other than an occasional loose wrapper (which seems to be more related to the manufacturer than humidity), my cigars smoke very nice.

I have a Diamond Crown humidifier in my main humidor. I can close the shutters and reduce the rh - I'm able keep it right around 65% and seems to do very well at that.

i normally place the cigar i'm going to smoke that night in a ziplock bag in the morning to dry it out a bit. they tend to burn better than when i smoke them right out of the humi at 70%. no ISOMs though

Been playing around with humidity beads and have found the 65% to be ideal. I get a nice even burn on my sticks, less cracking of wrappers and no mold. I do advise against climmax beads since the customer service sucks. You can get them from here:

What kind of cutter do you use on your ISOMs?
