I miss chat something fierce. I'd love to find an alternative. I've never snap chatted, but it sounds like it would be a snap. (see what I did there?)

For an alternative, download an IRC client. I use X-chat version 2.0.10c. Alternatively, you can go to https://www.mibbit.com/ for a web based client. Use one of the esper.net servers (optical.esper.net/6667, chaos.esper.net/6667, nova.esper.net/6667, etc.) for the desktop based client. Once connected to esper, type "/join #cigar " to connect to the room. On mibbit, select Esper from the "connect" drop down, then pick your nickname and type in "#cigar" for the channel.![]()
That was pretty easy but do you have to register a room to go to and join and that you can decide who can come in and who can't right? I am a room called #cigar

You don't have to register rooms, you can just make up whatever you want. If whatever room you try to join already exists, you will join that one. If it doesn't exist yet, it creates the room and puts you in it.
ya I understand if you and I wanted to chat I say meet me in cigarchat that's how you would find me unless you just pm my name but if we registered a room wouldn't it be there all the time so people could just go check who's in chat

I think I understand what you are getting at. Registering the room is basically just a way to keep hooligans out. It gives the founder of the room and anyone he/she designates admin powers to kick/ban people. The catch is that if the room is inactive for 30 days, then the registration expires and the room is available again. I went ahead and registered #cigars. If anyone is interested in getting magic admin powers, I can run you through the steps to register your nickname and some basic commands. Registering only takes about a minute.
As for people coming by just to see who is in the room, if we all just agree on a single room, then anyone can pop in at any time see what's going on.
