Default Cohiba Piramides Edicion Limitada 2006

Had to do it being today is 12/31/2006.

The cigar has a dark, maduro like wrapper uncharacteristic of ISOMs and personally I am not a fan of maduro wrappers. That being said, Cohibas are my favorite and I was wondering what this cigar has in store.

The cigar started out full bodied, spicy, and harsh, the harshness I'm sure from youth. I've only had this cigar in my humidor for a couple of days and to be fair I really don't think a review of this cigar with less than a year of age is fair. Nevertheless, for all you potential buyers, my thoughts continued...

Maybe an inch into the cigar the harshness left but the spice remained. The cohiba buttery cream came on stronger giving my favorite tastes of cream and spice. Over the course of the cigar the spice subdued until the end when it almost left completely. The flavor profile did not change much compared to the other EL 2006 Partagas Serie D #3 or the Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill.

Overall it was a really good cigar but I did not find the complexity I expected. Maybe in a year I will enjoy it more. In retrospect I would rather buy the cheaper Cohiba Siglo VI which I enjoy more.

    Overall Rating - A-

Revisitation after approximately three months. I noticed a developing complexity not noticed before and thought I'd share my impression.

To say the least, it is an impressive cigar. I can already detect a slight plume starting to develop. The cigar had a perfect roll, perfect draw, the clipped end was not too shabby in itself if I may add. I imagined this would be a nice smoke. I picked this cigar tonight because an uncle of mine was recently placed in the ICU and I'm feeling pretty bad about that, I wanted to smoke it while I am in good health and enjoying life.

The cigar started out more mellow. About half an inch in white pepper appeared and remained for about another half inch. After about the first inch the pepper left and became a very modest, smooth smoke...not distinctly tobacco flavor as I am use to, rather a chocolaty, hay-ish flavor. On further in, the smoke became very light, similar to a Torano Virtuoso. About midway the smoke became more medium bodied, with a slight spicyness. Harshness was nonexistent. I couldn't help to think this is a true connoisseur's cigar. Another inch or so and the flavor changed again, more towards a muted finish, where I then let it die down. Overall it was very good, very complex. I won't smoke another any time soon.

    Rating - solid A
