Thread: Introduction Section

  1. #1

    Default Introduction Section

I was thinking if we made a section for introductions, it would encourage newbs to start off on the right foot. Seems like everytime someone posts something without an intro, i gotta read 20 posts about how the guy should post an intro. I did it when I started. This being the first message board I've ever participated in, I knew nothing about board standards or what was expected/appreciated. So I started off without an intro and immediately asking for suggestions. Thankfully, everyone was kind. However, I've seen it not go down this way. I would like to prevent this from happening.

This is not an original idea, but I think it would do some good.

The FOGs have a way of seeing ones intentions. Most of the vets of cigar boards have seen it all.

The proper way is to introduce yourself...Failure to do so usually rasies a red flag.

I say let it stay as is...You are an exception to the rule. Your intentions proved to be correct. Others deserve to go down in flames. It's an unspoken common courtesy to introduce yourself in social situations. One should take the time to do so...He should not be forced.

I agree Ken. This is one of the things unique about this board - no new members section to tell newbs to mind their manners. Too many rules are spelled out sometimes, like introduce yourself here, play there, breathe over there, and the thinking section is . . . well, we don't have one of those. Too many rules provide too many loopholes, as in, "So what if I'm a POS, I introduced myself, I played newbie cigar trade, I have a thin veneer of 'good guy' stretched over my trollness, so I'm gonna piss where ever I feel like it on this board." If someone wants to be a part of this board, they can hang awhile a find out how, read, search, etc. People who get here with a sense of entitlement are quickly sniffed out when they don't have rules to hide behind.

Leave it the way it is.

I agree with Ken also. As you said Cheifchris this is not a new idea and the last time that this was brought up the same thing was said. If people really want to be part of our community, they'll will learn.

This explains alot.... relax a bit... I know you are very enthusiastic about your new hobby but don't try making changes in a place in which you are a FNG
I'm not big on doing reviews, tobacco doesn't taste like "cocoa" or "nutty" or "mocha" to me, it tastes like freakin' TOBACCO. I know what I like and I really don't care what other people think of other cigars. I've never read a review and said to myself "Wow, that sounds like a cigar I'd like to try!"

A noble suggestion Chris but personally, I've never been a fan of that.

If someone wants to sign up and contribute then fine, I really don't give a shit about knowing his or her personal information. Sure, it's nice if they want to disclose it but if they don't, then I won't hold it against them.

When I first got active on cigar boards, I posted my address, my birthday and some other personal information in my profile and a couple of years later, some shithead made up some fake blog about me. I actually thought it was pretty amusing but others may not share my sense of humor.

In todays day and age, I don't think it's very wise to disclose much personal information when you're new to a site like this because it invites trouble.

Take cinda for example, she values her privacy for a good reason. Once she got to know a few of us people here, she would share some details of her personal life but again, I don't think people should be forced into thinking they should open up their personal lives to us just because we'd like them too, it should be THEIR choice, not ours.

    Default Starting over

    Hello,

I've already posted on this forum about a H Upmann Jar so some might already have seen my name.
Anyway, I'm here to introduce myself to you guys, since it seems to be a nice habit here.

So my name is Dave, am 32 years old and am from Belgium.

I smoke cigars since I'm 23 years old since after graduation as a physiotherapist I lived for 3years in Cuba.I worked there for almost free( local people are very poor)
Must admit that before moving to Cuba I was never tempted to smoke.

    Now I'm post graduating.

I love especially Cuban cigars which are very easy to get here in specialised shops and am fund on other cigars( Nicaragua and Honduras) too.

My favourite cigar is still the Sir Winston Churchill bu H.Upmann.

Hoping to learn a lot from you guys since I've noticed there's a lot of knowledge on this forum.

    Best regards,

    Dave

You stupid fucking condescending piece of shit socially retarded idiot, if you think you're going to go forward from here without cleaning up that pile of shit you left over in your real intro thread, then you're of even lower intelligence than you first indicated. Here's the deal bitch: you owe the board and specific members of the board general and exclusive apologies. Smart money says many if not most won't even accept an apology from a lowlife piece of shit like yourself. Keep posting, I hope you got a econo size jar of vasoline, because your head's gonna be shoved up your ass repeatedly, over and over, and a lot

    PS "starting over" good one!

Ah, the old "I'm normal so what's your problem" defense. Well I think you are excitingly close to finding out that this whole fucking board has, um, lost their grip. Things are gonna be ugly for you in your short time here before you're banned permanently, so . . . ahh fuck it, stick any last thoughts you might have up your ass.

Hey Basil, you did an effort but at the last phrase you slipped again...

Be a good boy and try again...

By the way a poet like you should find the answer to this ...
