Default I think I already know the answer but...

Can I carry-on a cigar cutter, like one of those plastic handle guillotine cutters? I'm flying to Puerto Rico next week and don’t plan on checking any luggage on the way there. I've accepted using matches while I'm there, but I don’t know where any cigar stores are so I'm concerned about finding a cutter. Any one have experience in this area?

I've gotten one through, but I only found out after I got to my destination and opened up my otterbox and looked under the foam. I think it was a fluke, I didn't even know it was in there.

When I flew to Florida I put all my smokes and my cutter in my check in and they where all there when I picked them up in Florida. Check the TSA site and they should have what you can and can't take. For example, you can't carry a lighter, even in your checked luggage, on an airplane.

According to the TSA site, Cigar cutters are allowed in Check In and Carry on. TSA Prohibited and Permitted Items

Lighters are not allowed in checked or carry on unless they are empty. Also for those that want to carry matches...

*All lighters are prohibited as carry-on items. Lighters without fuel are permitted in checked baggage. Lighters
with fuel are prohibited in checked baggage, unless they adhere to the Department of Transportation (DOT) exemption, which allows
up to two fueled lighters if properly enclosed in a DOT approved case. If you are uncertain as to whether your lighter is prohibited,
    please leave it at home.
** Up to 4 books of safety (non-strike anywhere) matches are permitted as carry-on items, but all matches are prohibited in
    checked baggage.

However, check the site before you go because they change this a lot.

I'd bring one, but it would be my double bladed cheap one I bought at my b&m for 5 bucks, not my Xikar.

I took my Xikar on the flight and my cruise. Again, it was in checked luggage.

I don't think you can bring the cutter on in carry on, I put all my stuff (lighter and cutter) in my checked bag with all my shaving needs. Although if you were only going for a short time and didn't want to check anything you might consider a key chain punch I would think you could get away with it since its unlikely most of TSA would object to such.

When I flew a couple weeks ago, I had my cutter on my carry on. They saw it on the x-ray and had to check it to make sure you can't separate it and use it as a blade. Also, in Canada you are allowed to carry on bic lighters, but not torch lighters.

In case you do decide to bring it on as a carry-on - print out the TSA web information. Doesn't matter if it's policy or not, if the TSA agent doesn't know about it - they have final say.

Also - since I know you have a zippo - if you get one of these, you can bring it - prefilled - as checked baggage:

I can attest that you can definitely bring them on. They are on the permitted items list for TSA and I have been on several flights lately where I carried on a palio and a xikar respectively.

Thank you Lopaka for that good news! I don't plan on checking any stuff, but thanks for the idea Maui. I've actually seen them around and thought about it, but I want to get throught the terminal as fast as I can get off of the plane. Anyway, I'll make sure I have the TSA stuff printed out and on hand when I go through security.

I always bring some really long cigar matches and my punch cutter with me when I travel. Yeah, matches can be a pain in the ass, but it's also pretty cool. I can imagine in my own head that I'm John Wayne lighting a stogie.
There's only two kinds of cigars, the kind you like and the kind you don't.
