    Default Problem!

I have been doing what I can to learn about cigar care, and humidor up keep. Well I was reading about a temp. above 75F can lead to tobacco worm. Well my humidor has a temp. of 77F, how can I lower this?
I searched on google but nothing popped up. Can I put several pieces of ice in a few bags and place it in the humidor for a few hours? What is the best way to cool the humidor down?

I'm in VA. I keep the house hot. Should the ice be made from distilled water?

Thank you, I was getting a little worried there for a few. I have never paid attention to the temperature until I read the article. I will go put a cup of ice in the humidor right away.

    I love heat.

That is a great idea with the ice. Would it not also be a good idea to seal the shot glasses in a bag, to keep the humidity from getting too high? I know if I put a shot glass full of water in my humi, it raises it about 5-8%.

I keep my house at 55.

The solution to your problem is to turn your thermostat down to a reasonable temperature.

Do you not have a cooler area in your home? Maybe a closet with an exterior wall or a spot near an air vent? Do you have a basement?
The only long term solution is to place the humidor in an area with lower ambient temperature. Failing that I agree with CC, to be honest I think that it would probably be healthier.

I have a closet that stays cool. I'll place it in there. I keep my thermostat at 70-75.

You might drill some holes in the top for ventalation. Then place it directly under a ceiling fan. Turn it on high. The distilled water ice is possibly a good idea. Hang it over the top of the cigars so it slowly melts dripping small amounts of cold water on the bottom of your humi. If that does not work I guess your are SOL...Unless you like smoking cigar worms.

Thanks for the suggestions, the ice is working. The temperature has dropped to 72F.

I wouldn't worry about the temp. until it gets above 80. The rock idea sounds interesting as long as the humidor is sealed, a rock should cool the air inside and then take it out.
