    Default Antique Research

    Good Morning -

I recently purchased a small aluminum moistener; not expensive, but intriging. About
4 1/2" long, perferrated with holes at both ends, comes apart in the middle, and has broken chalk-like substance inside.

It has a mark of "Ideal Cigar Moistener Co., 548, Masonic Temple, Chicago".

I've been unable to locate an Ideal Cigar Moistener Company; probably out of business years ago. And, I have been unable to find references to any such item available now.

I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of where to go to research or could save me the time and tell me how it was used. Would you wet the chalk? Would the chalk absorb the moisture in the air? Does the Masonic Temple in Chicago still sell this item? What year could it have been made?

I bought the item as a Christmas gift for my husband and would love to know a little more about it before I give it to him. I'd appreciate any help anyone could give.

    Thanks a lot!
