    Default Coffee question/recommendations

So now that football is over I can go on my caffeine binge for a little while (that is until conditioning starts back up in January...God help me). And it's way too damn cold out to have cigars right now (tried it last night...froze the whole time unfortunately).

So I'm looking for some recommendations on what type of coffee you all enjoy. Currently I tend to stick with 100% Columbian or something pretty basic/ cheap since I'm low on cash but want to branch out and splurge a little since I'm not going to be drinking coffee too often other than in the winter.

So tell me guys, what's good? What do you all drink or recommend I try?

Killer Beans cannot be beat. I think my favorite at the moment is Caribbean Cutthroat.

    Killer Beans!

Are any of you guys starbucks fans? like as far as the retail blends that they sell in their store or in grocery stores? I've tried the Cafe Verona before but that was like a one pot kind of thing.

    Any favorites in here?

Killer Beans is running a sampler right now which I highly recommend you try. I am trying it now and really enjoy what he has to offer. Aside from that, my favorite coffee comes from WaWa or Dunkin' Donuts. The DD can be bought at Target/Supermarkets now. Give those a shot.

Mike, Dunkin Donuts is by far the best. the hazelnut makes my mouth water. add a little cream and a nice madura and you're all set.

fyi the coffee to water ratio makes a big difference too so make sure you right down the ratio when you get it right. personally i like 3-4 scoops per cup of water.

Wow! I have yet to have any 7-11 coffee that i would piss in, much less drink. All the 7-11 coffee I've ever had has tasted like burned shit. I supose thats a tribut to the people who work there, but I would disagree with you on 7-11 Dustin. If you are ever by a Wa Wa, then try their Columbian. Unfortunitly, i beleive they are only on the East Coast. I definatly missed them when i went west to Colorado.

IMHO, $-Bucks, 7-11, etc are all crap and as Jon said "I wouldn't piss in it". I feel the same way about 'Bucks as he feels about 7-11, it's friggin burnt. (Note, these are my opinions only. The 'Bucks owners have a little more money than I, so who am I to say!!!!)

I second Jerry (or third, or fourth, whatever). Only thing better than his beans is his service.

Killer beans are Grade A, but expensive.

Green mountain "our blend" is a nice medium roast that is tasty and won't break the bank.

edit - that being said, Jerry if you're reading this, put me on the list for four 1/2 pound bags of the Cutthroat medium roast when/if you run a batch again.

I've heard the Green Mountain NH speaks of is the best around. Peter King raves about it on his MMQB column on si.com. I've also heard the Dunkin Donuts is good too, but I've only had the beans from the store as there's no DD around here.
We have a local roaster here that has a phenomenal African bean...if anyone is interested lemme know and I'll send out some beans.

Being completely ignorant in the matters of fine coffee, Dunkin Donuts coffee is awesome. If there was one on my way to work I'd stop there every day.

+1 it is absolutely awesome. i just recieved a coffee grinder for christmas and man does it make a difference grinding fresh beans. aslo i will pose a question that i have been debating with friends. with th grinder i recieved a two pound bag of beans. my brother who does not drink coffee purchased them notknowing what to buy, so he bought espressor beans. now i have been using these in a regular drip machine for a while and they taste great but not too strong. so the question is do the beans themselves have more caffien, or is it the espresso brewwing process (pressure steam) that draws more of the caffien out of the bean?

Many believe that the darker the roast, the more caffeine in the beans. However, it's exactly the opposite (for the same bean, that is). During the roasting procss, one of the first to leave in the caffeine.

If you have an 8 oz cup of coffee, your intake of caffeine is more than a single Espresso, and slightly less than a double shot. And yes, the Espresso brewing process causes that.
