Thread: Freagin Rookie Humidor Question

  1. Question Freagin Rookie Humidor Question

Let me first state that I searched forums and could not find an answer to this question. I seasoned my humidor properly, filled it with cigars, set it in a cool dark environment "bottom drawer of my dresser". Every time I check the properly calibrated hygrometer inside the humidor it reads %76. I have decided to prop open the humidor lid to try and create the ideal conditions for my cigars in my drawer.

    Heres my question:
Can I leave my humidor lid open inside my dresser drawer indefinately so long as the RH and temp inside the drawer are ideal for cigar storage?
Is any amount of air transfer acceptable so long as the RH and temp are suitable to cigar storage?

Well, if your dresser drawer closes tight enough to maintain a constant temp and Rh........wtf do you need the humidor for?

So far the RH and temp in the drawer are good, but it does not close tightly. Also the drawer is not made of cedar, particle board actually.

I had the same problem with the RH. What I did was leave the lid open for a few hours and than close it. Come back later, or next day to check. If needed open again for few hours than close. I did it for about 3 days.Everyday I did it it dropped about 2 percent.
