    Default RP Edge

Had the opportunity to try an RP Edge (maduro) last nite at a local cigar bar event. Although the intial draw was unsatifactory, most likely due to a poor trim, followed by a second attempt with a single edge guilitine which smashed more than it cut ... the draw finaly fixed itself and I could begin to enjoy the smoke.

I really enjoyed the smoke and marveled at how "mild" it was, judged by how it didn't burn when exhaled through my nose/sinuses. Great smoke at $5.50 at the local.

Imagine my surprise when I read on CI that it was "The Edge is no doubt one of the stronger cigars on the market: that’s why the ads say ’for professional smokers only.’ "

I know I generally have the sensitivity of a goat, but this has me even more confused than normal. I have had a Gurkha Legend Beauty (ridiculously priced at $30/stick) which I did find too "strong" to really enjoy at the time. Now that I think about it I had a RyJ Reserve Maduro which is also rated as "full" which I also found delightful.

I am clearly unclear on the concept of Strength, strong != full etc.

    Any hope for this newbie?

I don't know why RP says that about the Edge. I guess because it's named "The Edge". And they have all those ridiculous warnings on it. If anything, that cigar is medium bodied. Seems like they might scare off more customers than they gain. I know I don't go out looking for a Quadruple Ligero.

I've smoked an Edge torpedo maduro, not nearly as strong as advertised, but still a VERY enjoyable smoke. gonna buy a box soon

RP cigars in general are medium bodied IMHO. You want strong? Try a Camacho Coyolar. I also found the CAO Italia to be pretty strong.

Cigars made with a lot of Ligero fillers tend to be stronger bodied.

I wouldn't classify the Edge as full, but I'm no good at that kind of classification anyway.

Who cares how it's classified as long as it's enjoyable. I think people put too much stock into whether a cigar is mild to full bodied, or whether it tastes like eggnog or shoelaces. Just smoke the cigar and if you like it great; if not, mark it up as a learning experience.

Oh ya, I do like the Edge, both Corojo and Maduro.

I think the torps are a medium also. Tried one of those 60 gauge versions the other day and it was down right mild.
