Thread: Care Package for the troops!

  1. #1

Smile Care Package for the troops!

I was contacted by a member about doing a Christmas Package for our own CigarSmoker troops that are away from home. I myself have too many things going on to be able to handle this. Looking for someone(trusted member) willing and able to do this.

The job entails collecting whatever people are willing to send over and then packaging it all up and sending it. At the moment I do not happen to know how many people from our little community happen to be serving. So you would need to find that out too. Since a group effort is a little slow they might not get it in time for Christmas but it sure would be a nice way to start the New Year. I'm sure a few have already sent things by themselves but this is for a group effort.

Post here if you want to run it and if your willing to send something. You don't have to list what it is. Certain items are a no no. I think liquor and Cubans aren't allowed and would cause a problem.

    Hi DG

I think this is a great idea and I've been trying to figure out how to do something like this. I'd be willing to contribute but I don't have enough time with the job right now to be able to handle the details.

    This I can tell you...

If you send a care package to one of us that are deployed.

    1. NO PORN
    2. No Alcohol
    3. No Cubans

If you send any of these, they will probably be put in the Amnesty Boxes we have around our bases. Although, I'm sure the "Cubans" would be properly disposed of.

It's better safe then sorry. For me, it's not worth my stripes. And since I come home in January, I'm not risking my ticket home.

If this gets off the ground, you can count me in as a contributor.

I definitely have a bunch of sticks to contribute. Don't know if I have the time to run this thing though.

If someone who has done this before will point me in the right direction in getting the package to the troops, I'll do it. I also will donate the winnings from the NCAA contest to get it rolling.

Korean, I can help you with shipping stuff over there. Its really easy. Basically its domestic postage since its going to an APO, you just have to include a customs form. I do everything online via the USPS and just have them pick it up at my front door. My sister-in-law is in Iraq and we ship stuff to her almost every week.

If you don't want to do the shipping part of it, I can probably do that, would just need some help from the rest of the board covering shipping costs and gathering addresses.

I'm good for some sticks and a contribution towards shipping costs.......need to know where to send them. Lopaka is the only member I know who is deployed, I'm sure there are more that I don't know about though. DG should have Lopaka's addy from the SS thread.

Count me in for part of the shipping. Let me know who is shipping and I'll send a box of something to include in the package.

DG this DG that. How the Hell did I get to know so much stuff.

I think I might be able to dig up his addy. Lopaka could always just PM The Korean. Anyone else that we are forgetting could also PM The Korean to be include in the care package.

    Awesome!

I'm excited about this. Everyone who wishes to give donate to the care package, please pm me for my addy. I am going to send the package out on Monday, January 7th. It would be great to have it there for the holidays, but want to give enough time for those who wish to donate to do so.

I am going to talk to guy at my local B&M and see if he'll add to the package, hopefully we get a good bit of sticks to send. If anyone wants to donate anything else other than cigars, feel free, but keep in mind of the items that are allowed. I plan on getting some creature comforts to put in there so if anyone wants to add to those or if anyone has ideas of what is needed or wanted please chime in.

Warning: I am going to bump this everyday or so with an update so we can keep it a hot topic.

    Default Update and Bump

Alright folks, here is the progress so far. I have gotten a PM from the following people offering to donate.

    Hefty Smokes
    Sammis
    Diesel Grinch
    Ashauler
    SpiffyKyle
    Smoked

Thanks to all of those who have pledged.

I also sent a pm to Lopaka, but haven't gotten a response (which I understand), but I saw in his one post in this thread, that he will be leaving in January, the same time we will be sending. Does the group still want to send to his division? I am sure that will be ok, just want to throw that out there.

    Sorry,

Just been a little busy. I post and respond to PM's when I can. Currently, I'll be leaving in the middle of January. So, I don't know if it will get here before I leave. All the smokers I hang out with are cigarette smokers. I'm the only cigar smoker in the group. I don't think sending me Cigars to take home is your intention.

Might be good to find someone else. If you do send them to me, then they will probably arrive for me to take home.

    However, thanks for the thought.

Yeah, I keep telling people Black and Mild are not real cigars. Try to convert. However, for some odd reason they like them.

I know there are some more generous folks out there, step right up!

Also, does anyone know of a AFO to send the package to? Lopoka will be back (Thanks for the service) so I wanted to ask the group.
