Thread: Shop Rite 1986

  1. Default Shop Rite 1986

Well I was able to rehydrate the Petrus Etiquette Rouge Belicoso I recieved from Cbid last week. It reminded me of a fine Shop Rite 1986 grocery bag, with some subtle hints of manilla folder. I like a woody Davidoff style cigar, I thought this would be similar. I read they were popular in Europe. I know they are cheap here but over there they are expensive.
I was warned by someone on this board, that they sucked, but I had already bid on them.
Live and learn! I will stick with Davidoff products and Habanos.

I have had one of the Petrus you speak of, wasn't horrible, but not my favorite by any means.

Don't give up on budget smokes, there are plenty out there.
I know I personally can NOT afford to smoke Davidoff or Habanos exclusively

There are many really good cigars (besides Davidoffs) and it takes a while to find them. Don't let a bad one spoil your adventure. I usually buy a box when I find one I like but that doesn't stop me from trying others. There are dozens of sampler packs usually at a pretty good value. Some even let you select.
I smoke a cigar every day and usually 4 or 5 on weekends so by year's end I will have smoked around 500 with at least 200 being different.

It just takes time and a bit of an investment to find those coveted cheap smokes. I've found a few smokes through sampler packs and, like you mentioned, uninformed, last-minute bidding on C-bid. I remember doing that with both the Tierra Del Sol line and the Flor Del Todos. Both smokes I've purchased again.

Of course, the list of dog rockets purchased is much longer. Regardless, occasionally you'll find a gem.

While I've heard good things about the 1986 vintage ShopRite bag, dollar for dollar you can't beat the 1990 Piggly Wiggly, currently found in most Macanudos.

Hearing that it is popular in Europe and you commenting on how dry it is almost makes me thing it was a dry cured cigar? I haven't done any searching but is this possibly the case? I know dry cured cigars are much more popular over there.
