Thread: Ipod Battery

    Default Ipod Battery

My girlfriend has had an Ipod for about 3 years. I've been taking it to work and can only get about 2.5 hours out of it. The battery has definately weakened over time. Does anyone know if the battery can be replaced? I've been considering purchasing one, but not if it's gonna dwindle down to just being a hassle in a year.

    Thanks for the help.

What model of Ipod? If its a nano or shuffle they are soldered onto the board. If its a regular one, I believe they are easy.

Ipod Classic, i think is what it's called. I know it's not a nano or shuffle.

If you search online for the specific model, you should be able to find a source on the battery you need, as well as a how-to on replacing it. I know you can also send it to Apple but I think they probably charge more than the Ipod is worth.

I beleive those are easy to replace. Check Ebay for a battery or another Ipod with a broken screen or dead HDD. And just take the battery out of that. If you have trouble let me know, a guy work with has a lot of experience with swapping out parts to Ipods. I can check with him.

According to the Apple website, the batteries last around 400 charges. But I bet the closer you get to 400 charges, the weaker charge you get each time.

I know if you bring them in to the Ipod store they can do it, or you can ship it to Apple. But I bet they charge out the wazoo.

When my Ipod Touch battery starts getting weak, I will just search online and find any alternative I can find instead of paying Apple a mint for a freaking battery.

The battery will actually last longer if you let it run all the way down before charging again. Same thing for laptop batteries.

I have the older click wheel ipod and its on battery #3 (all replaced by me) and doing fine. Plenty of good stuff online.

I try to do so; it's ususally well below 10% by the time I recharge. So I should drain it completely each time before I recharge?
