    Default Newbie Guide

    After reading the FAQs and the various newbie related information, I felt the board lacked some general information for the new cigar enthusiast. The following information I found helpful and hope it can help another get up to speed. I am by no means an expert and thought I feel the information below is accurate, it may require correction or additional insight from someone more experienced:

    Acronyms:
    ISOM = Island South of Miami (Cuba)

    B&M = Brick & Mortar

    CI = CigarsInternational.com

    CBID = cigarbid.com

    BOTL = Brother of the Leaf

    FOG = F'ing Old Guy

    Reading I found helpful:

    Cutting - http://www.jrcigars.com/index.cfm?page=jrcu_cutting

    Storage - http://www.jrcigars.com/index.cfm?page=jrcu_cigar-care

    Lighting - http://www.jrcigars.com/index.cfm?pa...ting-the-cigar

    Tips - http://www.jrcigars.com/index.cfm?page=jrcu_10tips

    Thanks,
    -Chad

    Those acronyms look right.

    I'm sure that they're posted around here somewhere, most likely they just got pushed down as other post were created and then got lost in the interweb.

    Maybe we could start a tutorial on how to use the SEARCH....

    Newbie Guide
    I'm not big on doing reviews, tobacco doesn't taste like "cocoa" or "nutty" or "mocha" to me, it tastes like freakin' TOBACCO. I know what I like and I really don't care what other people think of other cigars. I've never read a review and said to myself "Wow, that sounds like a cigar I'd like to try!"

    I like the sticky idea - but maybe clean it up a bit.

    Also, what's a Herf? Is it an acronym or a cigar-related term? That's always eluded me.

    From my soon to be released Cigar Journal </end shameless self promotion>

    Herf - When people get together and are Smoking Cigars. An event nickname
    developed for cigar smokers in the late ninetys on a cigar smokers News Group.
    Edit to add: Maybe we need a new thread with a list of Acronyms and Common Cigar Terms. I can put one together tonight if anyone thinks it would be useful.

    From cigaradvisor.com:

    Herf
    A lively gathering of cigar-smoking comrades who meet in a restaurant, club, cigar store or home to share their appreciation of fine cigars.

    No idea about the origins...
