Enough 'Polar Vortex'
That is all.
What are all those things?
I think there was some ice on my roof a couple weeks ago... Is it anything like that? :smiley45:
It will pass soon enough!
I'll take cold. I'll take snow. What is pissing me off is this stupid fucking "rain" on top of everything for a day making a sloppy shitty muddy frozen shithole of a yard.
I'm with Craig - snow one day, subzero temps the next. Bring me some 80 degree weather, please...
Ya'll could send some this way. We've been stuck in the mid-40's for the highs lately. The ski resort here has really been hurting for tourism.
For me, I'd be happy with 40 degree days in the summers. I need me some cold.
I'd be thrilled with 40's right now...
I gotta say - living in this weather does toughen you up. A few years back I went to Orlando in December. It was 65 in the evening - refreshing to me. The Orlando-ites were all "freezing". Was rather comical seeing them wear winter coats while I was in a long sleeve shirt...
So what really sucks for me with this weather is feeding the birds. That's right - you heard me - feeding the birds. You see, while out shopping once I picked up a seed sack (thistle seeds) to attract a few finches by the house. Momma thought I was outta my mind until the Golden Finches started showing up. Lots of Golden Finches.... once momma saw that birds do come where food is (she thought I was insane because she did not believe birds could sniff out a sack of seeds), she has become St. Francis Assisi reincarnate. We now have a dozen bird feeders around the house which need to be filled everyday. And nothing better than filling those when it's -15 with a 30 mph wind and 2 feet of blowing/drifting snow because momma does not want to see the birdies starve... :smiley18:
What you said X 2
It's been below -30 (not including the windchill) for most of the last two weeks. I went to Saskatoon on the 27th and it rained the day before and it was blizzard conditions when I left. I couldn't see pavement the first 75 km's (That's about 45 miles to you US folks) of the trip. I did drive out of the blizzard half way to Edmonton. The rest of the trip was uneventful with sporadic snow and 30 mph wind gusts.
This past Sat/Sun it was -45 with the windchill here at home.
So much for this "global warming" theory. I figured those alarmists had their heads up their collective asses 'cause I ain't seen no stinking global warming around here!
The same thing happened in Vegas when the wife and I went a few years back. Almost the same temps too! We're in shorts and t-shirts and the locals are wearing parkas and toques (I think you folks down south call them "beanies").
<sigh> 'Global warming' is going to have an impact - but gradually. What people don't seem to get is that the main impact of global warming will be increased variance in weather - more extreme weather more often - again, so gradually that it is easy to dismiss within one's own lifetime of experience.
Kinda reminds me of all the people who were wondering about ozone depletion in the upper atmosphere in the 1970's. The skin cancer rates are showing up now, decades later, but who could say that with certainty back then?
I remember reviewing greenhouse gas research 35 years ago when I worked in meteorology at Environment Canada - we didn't call it 'global warming' back then, but the data were already pretty well-known to the scientific community - and all science is theory, by definition. What to do about it is politics, of course.
Friggin' plow just came. So much for a relaxing post-lunch cigar.:-(
I've gone through 4x 20lb propane tanks on my patio heater (in the garage) just so I can enjoy a cigar in the evening. I don't think I used that much all of last year.
I am done with it also. Been feedin the birds too. Shoveling snow is not what this old man calls a good time any more. Yeah so much for the Global Warming Theory.lol:smiley11:
Just so I can get a non-political point to "climate change" in, about 80% of the countries in the world do about 98% of the harm.
If you have to take a piss real bad and there's a huge ocean in front of you, it doesn't make sense to piss in your pants.
Anyway, according to history, climate changes. According to science, man impacts climate change. How much of which is what and what is which?
Cigar Science History states clearly, "...when the weather is nice enough to enjoy a cigar out of doors, climate good. Otherwise, bad."
Who caused the last ice age? Indians ?
Not your typical morning in the south.

Poor fishies look cold too.

Schools are closed today due to the weather. No precipitation mind you, just temp. I know to a lot of you guys 3 deg. with a wind chill of about -15 deg. is nothing. But down here, it's a pretty big deal.
Supposed to get down to 33 degrees tonight.

Screw this my pipes just froze at 1 pm today, all night we let the water run and wife shuts it off for 1 hour while she was cleaning house and they freeze :smiley7: this is SC it don't get cold here what the hell is going on.
I have been feeding the birds this year too. Hubby made some feeders. I am trying to attract blue birds. I got the worms and those round pellets I think it peanut butter, the guy at the store said they love it It very hard to get blue birds to your house. I also have heated water for them. My idea is if I get a few blue birds to my house maybe I can be happy again. Blue bird of happiness....and there's also blue birds around pictures of rainbows. Pretty pathetic but I it's a goal.
Saw the following cartoon and had to put it up on this thread............lol

On a different note, you guys down south have my sincere sympathy and condolences. Up here we're used to this crap weather (well ok, as used to it as any human can ever get) so our houses are built to withstand it, our cars have block heaters so we can plug them in and they'll start no matter how cold and, we already own winter clothes. You folks are not prepared for this kind of stuff and it's likely to cause a lot of problems for you. :smiley6:
Here's hoping this weather goes past you all quickly!
Here on the wind-swept plains, we have clothes for all seasons, but they are in the same closet 'cuz you might need 'em all in the same day.
My wife was thrilled when she saw her first "bluebird"! I did not have the heart to tell her it was a Blue Jay... :smiley4:
But we have had some real cool birds show up at our feeders - we have a pair of Cardinals that visit every day, we were visited the other day by a Redpoll Finch, a bunch of Golden Finches stop by daily, about a half dozen Turtle Doves are hanging out and we've see a fair number of Nuthatches. And the million or so Sparrows that crowd everything else out...
4 deg F at the house this am. Pipes are OK,cars started fine and I have enough winter Lineman clothes for 2 weeks straight. It was hella cold though but all of the fleet trucks started this morning . Gonna be 11 in Charlotte tonight so that means 8 or so here in the country. I grew up in Central IN so wither here is not really all that bad but I am 30 years older now . When you get older the lower your nuts hang so they get cold quicker.
I just watched an episode of 60 minutes on volcanoes. Interesting factoid - in 1815 a volcano erupted in Indonesia the shot ash and sulphur 30 miles into the atmosphere and was responsible for complete global cooling. So much so - New England (in the US) had a "summerless summer" - it stayed cold that entire year...
With roughly 1,500 volcanoes worldwide, how do we factor those out from the climate change supposedly caused by fossil fuels? I'm sorry - Mother Nature surely can be a biotch!
Yay, another Polar Vortex is coming.
Got some snow today, but not like they predicted. I was hoping for the 8" on the high side, but it only looks like 3-4. At least it won't melt with the polar vortex back.:smiley20:
Maybe I replied to this, and forgot. I had the pipes freeze twice for the first round. There's a spot under the kick panel on the back wall where there's no insulation on the pipes. The cold water froze. 30min with a heater on it, got it back going. I feel pretty good about the CPVC move I made.:smiley14:
-10 F with wind chill in Atlanta this morning. Brrr!

lol ;)
It is getting February weather in January that gets me. At least in February we have March to look forward to. In January, all there is to look forward to is ... February.
Ice storm in Atlanta? I hate those.
About 2-3 inches of snow here south of Charlotte. The whole region is freaking out . The Mach 1 will sit this out ,the Interpid has been called into service.
It was effing hot here in cali today... like 80 deg F!
I miss my winter weather, high 40's low 50's!
That sucks Will , I don't to wad it up or some dumbass rear end me.
