Total Newbie from Iowa

Hi, I'm from Iowa. Never smoked a day in my life but I'm getting married this summer and want to have cigars for occasions: bachelor party, birth of a child and the like... maybe for fun, I hear its a lot of fun to take a cigar and go by a bunch of cigarette smokers and puff away :smiley17: I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke but I do enjoy the smell of pipe tobacco every once in a while. I loved smoked meats and the outdoors. My cologne is Good Life by Davidoff (I understand he makes cigars).

I'll probably be jumping in the Newbie sampler thread to get some decent quality mild cigars and others, maybe see if I can send funds for a decent humidor as well. Hopefully a complete care package for a newbie.

Well I think I've :smiley43: enough for now all by myself. If you have any tips or advice questions... or concerns shoot them my way. I'll be happy to answer.

I did have one question though, is it acceptable to not smoke an entire cigar at once, and what the proper way to do so was?

I've never had any good luck, as far as preserving the flavor, with re-lighting a cigar after its put down for a while. Not to say I don't finish my wife's cigar on a walk with the dog at the end of the night...:smiley9:

Hi there! I'm fairly new to cigars as well and a newbie to this site. I lol'ed when I read that you enjoy smoked meat. Perhaps you could try using some as a wrapper, might make for quite a tasteful cigar wouldn't you agree? :smiley37:

Welcome from another Iowa member. Which area are you in? You smoke as much of the cigar as you can but relighting isn't really the best. After you smoke a cigar you can't put it with your other cigars in the humidor as it will mess them up. This leads of course to the semi-smoked cigar drying out.

Ticker, it would be cool if you would rein some of this shit in, take a few days or even weeks and just read some old threads - cigar reviews, noob intros, troll roasts, etc., and get a feel for this site before you post too much more. A good rule, no, an excellent rule of thumb for noobs is to "read more, post less."

Thank you for the welcome. However, please don't concern yourself with my actions. I will read when I please and post when I please. I don't intend to become an expert overnight, nor do I ever. I simply enjoy learning about cigars and shooting the breeze with others alike.. and doing so on my own time. I think an excellent rule of thumb for senior members who let their post count get to their heads is that it is just a number and any member, regardless of his or her post count should be treated equally. I'm simply welcoming another new member like me, which I see nothing wrong with. Anyways, this thread is about welcoming gifters and not me, so let us not get off topic.

To answer your question, sh*t happens. To do it:
1. Purge (blow outwards) the cigar. Get the wrapper burning.
2. Let the cigar go out in the ashtray.
3. Light the next morning. The cigar will be different and not as good.

Better to cut the cigar in half at first, or, better yet, purchase a tin of smaller cigars for such occasions.

If your interested, check out how to hand roll cigars and smoking tips by expert village on youtube. Theres a bunch of 2 minute videos that talk about a bunch of little things. Everything from how to light a cigar properly, to how to ash, how to cut it properly, etc. Just a bunch of little things, but you could probably pick up a thing or two. I know I did.

There was no "tone" intended and I found his welcoming to be quite arrogant. That is how I percieved it as one human being speaking to another, without the supposedly social hierachy.

Intro thread was the first thing I did once I signed up. Apparently mods have to check it since it was my first post/thread I believe. Never gave my intro here, just said hi and said that I'm new as well. I'm no forum etiquette expert either, though I'm not big on hijacking other peoples thread. Or, since you're right here on a forum by and for people who smoke cigars, you could use the search tool and read up on all that stuff. You could also learn a little about the history of this board and it's members...or you could be a douchebag.

Ticker, if you like this forum, you need to thank guys like Basil and those other "senior members" that are your "equal" and have kept it free of asshats for many years. Remember that this is a member-moderated forum. No one here will take your side because of board "decorum." The board is what it is. If you take on the guys who keep it on a level keel you really don't stand a chance. For what it's worth, I found your post presumptuous for somebody with little or no history here. Not trying to get you going, I'm figuring (for now) it was an honest mistake. Just offering a word to the wise. I also would echo that you should post an intro thread so we can all get an idea of who you are. It's nothing that others haven't had to do.

Hi Shelby, I can understand where your coming from and appreciate your maturity. I'm not looking for anyone here to take my side or another, it's not like that at all. I also appreciate what the senior members have done for this forum, including Basil. I'm currently getting involved with the newbie Sampler thread which is something I know ashauler has put a lot of time and effort into to keep it running smoothly.

Likewise, I'm also not trying to get anyone going, but if I feel I'm being targetted unfairly, I will stand up for myself. I understand that you guys must get asshats on here, just like any other forum. The same goes for members who tend to let their post count get to their heads. Don't take that the wrong way, because I am not saying it applies to everyone with a high post count, not at all. But there are certain individuals like that. Luckily they are few and far between.

I will admit I could have left out that comment, so I apologize. But I will also say that I did not deserve the welcoming that I received nor the immature comments/name calling. I know many of you are friends and as such turn a blind eye to those comments and tend to only focus on what the new guy is doing wrong, I understand that. But it should never have to be a situation where a new member must earn his respect from others before being treated with it. Thats like saying all new immigrants to our country must earn our respect before being treated with it. That is no way to treat a fellow human being.

Like I've said, I've also attempted to make an intro thread but I received a pop up window when doing so which stated something along the lines that I had to wait for an admin to verify it first? However I may very well be remembering incorrectly. I will attempt to make a new thread shortly. I waited abit incase it took some time before it could be displayed to avoid making two of the same threads.

Again I apologize to anyone I've offended. If there is something I say that doesn't sit well with anyone, just let me know in a respectful manner and I will have no problem with that.

Thanks everyone for the info everyone. Sorry for the short post but I spent my weekend turkey hunting and got my first bird. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the welcome.

Welcome to the board gifters & congrats on your first turkey. Was it a jake or a mature gobbler? I called 4 in to my dad a couple weeks ago and he blasted a jake. I took a shot but they were too far away (80+ yards).
