I want to know everything, I am currently going to college for International Business with a minor in French. I LOVE cigars like everybody here, and just want to get research because my dream is to some day open my own place!

Must haves for any cigar store:
- Cigars from all over the world, including Thailand, Norway, Czech Republic, Lithuania, and - of course, Mascedonia.
- Wine and Scotch bar
- Gourmet chef and dining facility (what goes better than a cigar than a thick, juicy steak!)
- Workout facility complete with scantily clad massage therapists - so I can lift weights while smoking a cigar (that's how Arnold got so massive) and get a good rub down afterwards.
- Betting parlor, including table games. But no slot machines - those are for girls.
- An on-staff horse racing handicapper (to go along with the betting parlor)
- Small, nine hole golf course out back.
- On premise dry cleaner
Good luck with your venture. I'm sure if anyone's going to make it work, it will be you!
BTW - you have to get in contact with YoungForbes - our resident venture capitalist. He's hard to get a hold of, but if you can connect with him I'm sure he'll want in with you!
No cigar shoppe is complete without a wide selection of Acids.
Normally, I look for cigars in a cigar shop.
Doc
Hookah, if i don't see a giant water bong in the window i don't bother walking in the door.
Gin
Hookers
And a really cool Indian
I love the smart as replies! I also love the serious ones too! My goal is to bring a new generation into an amazing culture!
and for those of us that don't drink...........
A head shop with with a nice assortment of pipes and bongs.
Oh yeah I almost forgot, the place should really have a pole and strippers.
My wife has made an interesting observation about Canada. She has opined that life in Canada must be boring, because there's an awful lot of bars and strip clubs dotting the countryside (I guess not that much to do during those long, cold winters). I'm not quite sure it's out of the norm (Canada vs. U.S., for example), but wifey sure picked up on it.
I'm looking out for my Canaduan bretheren and in the interest of dispelling any potential myth - perhaps you could scale back your request for "poles" and "strippers" and maybe just settle for scantily clad massage therapists?!? :smiley2:
In the US, there are many roadside churches and car dealers. I'll take bars and strip clubs.
Well the whole idea is I want to provide a place where new and old smokers alike a place to sit down and enjoy their cigars. I want to be able to provide fully humidified lockers, over sized leather chairs and couches, nice tv's, kitchen, bar, wine cellar.
See - your vision is SO mainstream - old school kind of thinking. Many shops have failed because the owner was afraid to venture outside the box! Break through to that next level - change the paradigm.
You truly want the create a cigar shop that is a "destination" - a place people want to go and hang out. You want to have a wide variety of services and products available that customers will spend money on.
Consider:
- Multi-screen movie theater
- Indoor skate park
- Indoor water park
- High end hotel
- Bowling alley (I know, but they're making a come back...)
- Live bands
- 500+ beer and/or wine selection
(this thread has really shaped up:smiley20:)
Can't forget horseshoe pits...
I'm feeling generous dudeguy, so I'll put together a preliminary floor plan drawing this weekend for you and post it here. I'm no architect, but any monkey can design buildings nowadays with these new fangled CAD programs. :smiley20:
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would utilize this at a cigar shop (and I'm really going to pat myself on the back for this out-of-box thinking)
Child care center / Kids play room / area.
Think about it. How perfect!
Prelim plan... still need to add some things like the child care area...

I hope George doesn't mind... instead of a skate park I went with an ice skating rink. I doubt the budget will allow for both.
Where are the shuffleboard courts / darts / pool tables? Racquetball / squash? No sauna's, hot tubs, or even a lap pool? Oh yeah, where is the walk-in humidor?
I can pitch into the landscape design.....I'm thinking a tobacco patch would look wonderful.
Will do, I'm planning on some basement space for a firing range and we can have a 2nd floor mezzanine area for the child care and conference center.
I'm working on a nice 3D rendering of the front entrance... what are we naming this place? As a place-holder for now I have the signage reading "Cigar Shoppe".
Wang Dang Sweet 'Gar-Tang
Buzz's Cigar emporium
Bigger than JR Cigars
Cigar-a-lop-a-ding-dong
ETA: Cigar Neverland
Why go home? Cigars
Dubai Cigar Center
I'm in the mattress business so I guess I could help provide some of those. We are still doing the high end hotel area, right?
Well, of course.
I was thinking, maybe one of those motorcycle wheel of death things would be cool...

I LOVE all the help I'm getting!!! this is great guys!!!! I will make sure all of you will be preferred customers! lol!
I'm actually an apprentice Sheetmetal worker so I could help with the HVAC. I haven't done any since 1990 though so I'm pretty rusty, but I can bang duct together and hang it like nobody's business. Just don't ask me to do an onsite ogee offset is all.
Also, considering I've spent the last 15+ years in IT with the last 7 specializing in networking I could do all the network cabling for the entire building. I'd suggest 10 Gig fiber optic backbone with Cat 7 cabling to the outlets from the patch panels.
Don't forget on the blue prints to add a data center. It should be big enough for at least 10 APC server racks (I was thinking 5 but one should always double their expectations to allow for growth). Don't forget the integral, redundant UPS's (2 x 100 KvA ought to do) and separate A/C units in the data center. Oh, and you'll need a backup generator as well. A bloody big one as it'll have to run all the power for the whole building. Might be better to have a separate gennie for the data center but that would be up to the electrical engineer.
What about a Casino? Nobody's mentioned that and I'd love to be able to sit and smoke a cigar while playing Texas Hold'em.
Oh yeah, gotta have some hot tubs and a sauna! Good thinking Jamie. I like the idea of a tobacco patch too. Wouldn't there be a need for some storage rooms for the tobacco so it can age? Maybe we should be thinking about hiring a couple cigar rollers too. I volunteer for quality control!
Has anybody mentioned a golf course or maybe just a driving range???
Oh you know what would be REALLY cool..........if we put it all together on a cruise ship!
