Finally had the habano today. Descent but not to my tastes. Will try again with a few months age. I'm mostly a maduro guy anyway. I have read the early handmade specimens were better.

Yeah, I had a habano a week or two ago and had the same thoughts. The only interesting thing about the cigar to me was how long it maintained a slow steady burn. Flavor didn't do anything special for me.

I went to an Oliva event at my local shop a few weeks ago. The special they were running was buy a box, even mix and match, get 20% off and the Oliva rep gave another sampler 10 pack. Unfortunately the Nub was not a freebie but I did pick up one of each for 20% off at the reps prodding.

Surprisingly enough my favorite was the Connecticut and I went back last weekend and picked up 2 more. You don't "hit the sweet spot" right off but it does get full pretty quickly. The Oliva rep claimed that they were an hour smoke so I timed them and they did last me anywhere between 50 minutes and an hour. Granted I was smoking with a glass of "sippin' whiskey" in my other hand.

Several things surprised me as I tried them over the course of a weekend. The event was Thursday night and I tried the Hab on Friday, Cam on Saturday, and the Conn on Sunday. The Hab was my least favorite when I expected it to be my fav and the Conn was my fav where I expected to be my least. The Hab I had was a bit inconsistent in flavor and burn. It bordered on harsh on a couple of occasions. I want to give it another try because my first experience with an Oliva V series was similar and everyone after has been exceptional. The Cam was nice and consistent, even burn, good flavor with a hint of spice, everything you expect from a Cam. Not surprises here but just an average Cam cigar. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The Conn was the surprise of the 3. Full bodied, nice thick smoke, the best way to describe it was "crisp". It was also the longest lasting of them. A trait I expected of the Hab. I am actually going home tonight to light up another one.

I think they are a bit pricey but not out of range. At my local shop prices range from 6.50-7.50 which is almost double the price of the G series and a little more than the O series but then again I am still getting used to the short fat cigars so maybe it is a mental block. With me mental block are common. :)
