Funny thing about Schlitz, it's owned by Pabst and brewed for Pabst by Miller. Before Prohibition it was the number 1 beer in America and regained it's popularity in 1934. A prolonged strike allowed Bud to take up market share. In the '50's they messed with the recipe and it became, by all accounts, undrinkable and a joke. I understand Pabst is using the old recipe, but it's not distributed here in New England as far as I know. I'd like to check it out. I like old man beers, as I call them, but many aren't what they were when I was a kid.
Doc.

I was stationed in that part of the world a couple of times. From what I remember, Linenkugel was pretty good and a lot folks there drank a beer called Old Style. I understand that too is owned by Pabst now. When I was a very young sailor, I went to Milwaukee on liberty and told the bar tender I'd like a local beer. He looked at me kind of funny and said, " Son, they're all local beers".
You don't owe me anything, George. I'm sure that Schiltz will once again be distributed in New England and I'm pretty sure I can wait for that day to come.
