I work in an Electronics R&D Lab. When I first started here, I was in this one lab where four of us had identicle cubicles along one wall...they looked like cages . Me and a buddy of mine used to say we felt like lab monkeys.

on other boards (chainmaille ones mostly) i go by Mithrilmailler. Mithril comes from the LotR books (big tolkien fan), and the mailler comes from the fact that i make chainmaille. so for this board, i just dropped the mailler and was left with Mithril.

    hex
    n.

    1. An evil spell; a curse.
    2. One that brings bad luck.
    tr.v., hexed, hex·ing, hex·es.
    1. To put a hex on.
    2. To bring or wish bad luck to: “Chilly evening weather and a chain of minor snafus seemed to hex the $5,000-a-seat gala on Governors Island” (Newsweek).
1848 is the year my collage fraternity was founded. I've been using hex1848 as my AIM screen name for years, so I figured I would keep it and use it for everything else. (Its also what I use for my DMOZ editing)

Well, I have been a Criminal Investigator for a little over 4 years now....while in MPI school, they taught us about a theory--Locard's theory. The theory deals in the transformation of physical evidence from one place to another, no matter how small. For example, getting out of your car, you have seat fibers stuck to you....go inside a friends house and you leave some of those car fibers on his couch, and pick up more couch fibers....get it....so when something happens at your friends house, and I collect fibers.....I match the seat type with vehicles of known visiters and....well you get it....

I liked the name, and have never forgotten the theory....

Mine is from my college days. I am lucky to be able to use it here since in many cases someone has taken it. Way back in the early wild-west of the Internet I used to IRC Op on EFNET when it was the "in thing" so I was able to keep the name mine on there for ages. At one time more people in Toronto called me Monk than knew my real name... and that was in person! Basically the name comes from a combination of things... in one way it was an ironic nickname because in Western society Monks are percieved to be celibate and non-drinking, and I was the complete opposite. However there was a deeper level to it that many many people missed, and that was the combination of Spirituality that I have, and the fact that sex and drinking aren't prohibited to Monks from other parts of the world. Lastly, it was the name of a Mechanic in a rulebook for a game called Twilight 2000 which was a post-apocalyptic military game that I loved

I still answer to, and people still call me Monk in person to this day including family.
