Davidoff Grand Cru No.5
4 X 41 Petit Corona
According to the Davidoff website, the shapes in the Grand Cru series are the original shapes that Davidoff started with in 1946. The construction of this cigar is fantastic. The cap is expertly applied and the cigar is uniformly firm from head to foot. The cap clipped clean and produced a perfect pre-light draw with a crisp, earthy tobacco taste.
It took to the bic easily and sprang immediately to life. My immediate impressions are of a woody, spicy character with a medium body and strength. There is some peppery / leathery flavors on the finish and in the aftertaste, though my palate is easily cleansed with a sip of water. The ash is a very appealing shade of light gray....almost white. The ash held firm to the halfway point where it snapped off cleanly with only very minimal coning of the ember. The burn is razor straight with a definite black ring around the base of the ember.
The flavors and body/strength characteristics remained the same to the mid-way point when the smoke seemed to intensify and the flavor of leather and pepper took the lead. Then into the last third the flavor mellowed a bit with the leather dominating. It remained this way to the nub.....and I do mean nub, the toothpick kind!!
This was a top notch cigar, and a fine example of craftmanship. I'm gonna stay the hell off the devil site and save up some pennies......I need to keep a few of these in the humi for sure. For such a small vitola, this sucker packs a hell of a lot of flavor inside. The smoke time for me was 41 minutes.![]()

For those interested in trying a flavorful and wonderfully constructed petit corona vitola....I would highly recommend this stick.
