Default Job / Life / Whole World Change

I've been looking for a new job for some time now. It's not that my wife and I aren't happy in central Oregon; it's very beautiful and there are lots of outdoor activities. Bend is pretty small, and there is a lot of emphasis on community and culture. But full-time jobs are scarce, and the cost of living is astronomical.

I was flown for an on-site interview to Shreveport, Louisiana this past weekend, where, on Monday morning, I was offered a job. It's a bit different work than I've been doing, but maybe I'm at a point where I need a career shift, anyways. It's going to be a challenge, I might not be on the boards as much at first, but overall, this situation will be best.

I'm really excited about moving back to the south. I have a lot of family and friends there, I grew up there, and am used to the culture. I think my wife will have challenges, but I'm confident we'll find stuff for her to do as well.

All of this to say, we are moving at the beginning of December. We won't be settled until at least the first of the New Year. I have let Basil know that this might be a possibility even before I went down to Louisiana, so my SS can expect their package early. No worries, there. I will remain in close contact with Basil throughout the process to provide a workable address to send to.

Can't wait to move down south and maybe meet some of you Texans and Mississippians.

Congradulations! Good luck in the move. Your going to now need to worry about heat, rather then humidity!

Software engineering - web based. I've been doing a lot of PHP stuff for a while, this is going to be some ASP.NET, so that will be a change. Besides, I've rarely gotten paid for my past programming efforts.

See? Hobbies pay! Now if only I could get a job smoking cigars..........

Congrats on the job and move back to a more homey place for you and the family. Oregon is absolutely gorgeous (esp. near bend), but you definitely have a different culture than the south.
