Thread: Time of humidor

    Default Time of humidor

How long should it take for a humidor to reach the correct humidity? I just got mine in the mail today and I have a few cigars sitting in it right now, but they aren't my good ones yet. Would it be ok to put my real cigars into the humidor even though the huimidity isn't correct?

Spud - I'd hold off putting anything in there until it's conditioned. on the net, search humidor conditioning, cigar humidity, cigar rh, or some similar combo of words and you'll get several sites giving instructions that are likely close to the same. important: use distilled water. don't be afraid to wipe the ceder liner with a wet cloth - I use coffee filters (clean ones, then toss 'em). You may just be able to put a shot glass or something @ 1/2 full in the humi, lid closed for a few days. keep an eye on it - it took at least three weeks to get one ready here in west texas - it shouldn't take that long at all in Houston. You'll likely have to fight a high rh down there.

The humi-beads work pretty well - that's what I use. also on the net.

I let mine sit for about a week with a small bowl of water in it till the humidity wouldn't go up any more. Then I took the water out and let it lower a bit with the beads in there. Now it stays pretty close to 65% most of the time

I got mine and right away I wiped the inside with a cloth damped with distilled water. I then filled the humidifier with distilled water and let the humidor sit over night. The next day when I got home from work, I filled the humidifier again and wiped the inside down one more time. By the next morning my humidity was up to 67% so then I put my smokes in there. I could seem to get it to 70%, but, 67% is plenty worthy. I have had that humidor for a little over a month and just last week it started reading at a constant 70%.
