    Default Is this the place?

Is this the forum where a new member says "Howdy"? If so, howdy from Peters Creek, Alaska.

Although I've smoked 'em off and on for years, I've never been an "expert" on cigars...just someone who likes a good one every now and then. Now, I'm on again. I gave up cigarettes back in November and only last week, gave myself permission to pick cigars back up again. This time, it seems I'm in for a penny, in for a pound.

I bought an honest-to-goodness humidor this time...not one of humidified jars or cans in which I'd previously kept just a handful. Rather than thinking about buying just a couple of this, a couple of that, I'm now looking at boxes and bundles. I'll probably be subscribing to the mags instead of picking one off the newstand when the mood strikes.

Other details...married, 44, a vet (MSgt, USAF, Ret), a grampa, and a card-carrying gun nut. I enjoy Cowboy Action Shooting, flyfishing, flytying, home improvement, cooking, fine wine, good beer, a smooth single malt, the occasional pipe, and of course, cigars. I'm a Southern boy (b. Mississippi) who moved to Alaska more than six years ago. Great land. Good people. Good fishing. Good grief, it's too stinkin' hot down South. They'll carry me out feet first.

I look forward to jawin' with you and pickin' your brains.

Glad to have you here too How's the weather this time of year? I've always wanted to travel up north. So much untouched land!

    Thanks all for the welcome.

The weather has been quite nice the past couple of days with highs into the low 70s. Way to nice to be workin' but I have to support my vices somehow. We're rapidly approaching almost 20 hours of sunshine per day so we're burnin' it at both ends for as long as it lasts. Summers are far too short but they can be glorious.

I'm not adoptin' anyone! My kids are grown and out of the house and I intend to keep it that way. Havin' a dog, two cats, and assorted fish is more than enough, thanks. (heh)

K&P...good name you have there. I was stationed in the ROK back in '81. Kunsan and Osan. There are times I sure miss fishing down South. I'm a reformed bass fisherman, now converted to trout bum. Last time I went home, I took a fly rod with me just to mess around in the ponds on the family property. I think I even got a cousin hooked on it.

Labmonkey...we don't have catfish up here, nor any other species that noodling would work for. At least I don't think it would. Most of 'em just don't sit still long enough for it. (Here's a list of sport species in Alaska.) I've run trot lines, yo-yos, and even milk jug sets but never tried noodling.
