    Default Yay Exploding Television

    Yay my TV just exploded.

Well that fucking blows. Sitting in the living room battling some undead on RE5 when what should happen....POP!! light bulb on my 1 1/2 year old HD TV blows. FUCK!!! it's under warranty so it will be replaced but damn if it blows again in another 1 1/2 years wtf then. Damnit. Worst of all the technician can't get out to us until may 6th so I am parted from my 360 and any HD movies until then. This sucks worse than that Acid Kuba Kuba I smoked about an inch of.

Hey now. Them are strong words there...

Yeah, that sucks. We have a refrigerator that had to be repaired not once, but twice by a service tech, because the first guy fucked up his solder job on th new compressor, and all the freon leaked out in about 1 day.

    New Fridge: $1100
    New compressor & service visit: $600 (x2)
The fact that they screwed themselves by not building a decent fridge in the first place: I'm not going to say "priceless" its just sucked not having a fridge for about 1 month. (had to share time in "old faithful" a post war GE single door that's the beer fridge in the basement.

I always wondered why an apllainace from the 60's is still running strong and something from the 90's needs to be replaced with in 10 years. The Tv thing sucks I bought the insurance on ours but that was for like 3 years and that is over by now so I hold my breath. We did buy a TV in the early 90's we had to take it in like 4 times in the first year but after that it ran real good and still working today.

They won't let you fix it yourself??? When my bulb went, I just called the extended warranty place. First replacement they will send the bulb out - took about 3-4 days to receive it, and about 2 mins to install. Next time (apparently) they want a tech to visit my house.

I know I saved about 5 days by doing it myself...

Could but I am technologically stupid when it comes to that and am afraid I'll screw it up. I plan to watch so I know how to fix it next time but the next time I have to pay for the bulb. Warranty only covers one.

    You don't need a television.

Get a projector, or just watch Hulu.

I'm telling you......think of how many more cigars you could enjoy......

I will be TV-free February 16 of next year. Largely because of this.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I've got done in that amount of time, or the money I've saved.

    I'm just sayin....

I haven't had cable / TV since at least 2004....
I don't know how people get anything done that watch it.

Screw it up is exactly what you need to do!

You open a trap door - unscrew one bolt - pull on the handle of the cartridge until it comes out - push the new cartridge (same orientation) into the same hole as before - screw the bolt back in and close the trap door. Takes all of 2 mins - TOPS - and that's with reading instructions and all...

I just hope you didn't choose a Mitsubishi - those bulbs are EXPENSIVE and go out fairly frequently!!!! My buddy's gone through 3 in 3 years... And there was something about some kind of ballast or some other nonsensical extra part that cost a fortune to replace...

Mmy Brother in law clued me in to Panasonic - one of the best pictures with darn near the cheapest bulb. My extended warranty cost me $250 - about the price of a new bulb...
