Default New hobby, new member, same old questions

    Yay, I can finally post.

I've always enjoyed a cigar every once in a while, usually while drinking with my buddies. I never understood why people paid more than a few dollars for a pack of cigars, they all taste the same, right? Yeah, I was an idiot back then. Well, that was a few weeks ago and I'm still an idiot now. But I at least now know that paying for good cigars makes all the difference in the world. No more Swisher Sweets or Philly Blunts for me.

So, I have a bad habit of jumping head first in to any hobby I pick up. I usually find a hobby enjoyable, come to the internet to do research (which is why I joined this forum) and the proceed to spend way too much money on that hobby. Started with my Jeep, then went to guns, now its cigars. I already have a newbie sampler lined up, have a small humidor on order, have some cigars in the mail, and have plans to buy a really nice humidor from cubancrafters.com. Am also considering a coolerdor.

I guess I'll tell a little more about me. My name is Travis and I live in central PA near PSU where I went to college. I enjoy sports, good beer, good company, and good women. Play baseball in the summer. Pretend to go offroading in my Jeep. And I shoot at things with my guns. Notice I said shoot at. I can't say that I always hit 'em. A few weeks ago my buddies and I sat down for some beer and cigars. I forget the brand but they were good. That got me wanting to try a real cigar. Last weekend for the 4th of July, I bought some Ashtons and my brother-in-law bought some Playboy cigars. I really enjoyed the Ashton, so here i am on this forum trying to learn something for you regulars.

My first question: Is it better to have a nice humidor filled with only a few cigars or is it better to have a bunch of nice cigars but no humidor? Kind of like the chicken before the egg thing.

Anyways, it's good to be here and I hope I'll fit in.

Welcome to the boards from outside of Ottawa.

You're off to a good start with the newbie sampler.

As for whether it's better to start with a nice humidor or nice cigars, that depends, are you ok with having a tupperdor and some beads to store your nice cigars until you get that nice humidor? If you are that's the quickest way to get into it. In the end you probably will want that nice humidor. A tupperdor is just like a coolidor but on a smaller scale.

Personally, I started with a small cheap humidor and a coolidor, now I have a nice humidor and still have the coolidor but am looking at a bigger/another coolidor until I get the time/money to build a walkin humidor in my basement.

It's a slippery slope, some would call it a cliff.

Not a problem at all. I just didn't want to get in trouble for PM'ing someone in the Newbie Sampler thread without making an intro post first.

Welcome to the boards! Hi from the middle of no where in John Day Oregon. I am a noob too. Just got my coolidor set up recently. Will be getting in on a noob sampler too as soon as I have the cash to spare. You will find every one here really good at helping you out with questions. In my opinion you should go for the coolidor as big as you can afford. It is the best bang for the buck. Get some beads and a digital hydrometer. Belonging to this board you can expect to be collecting all kinds of good cigars in short order. Welcome, and I hope you enjoy the boards as much as I do. Roger.
Just another day at the office!

I'm pretty new around here too. I don't even think I was smart enough to offer an introductory email about myself so cheers to you.
