Ash Tray Smell

My ash tray is some kind of ceramic. I'm not actually sure if that is a very porous material, but I would be interested in hearing some suggestions for a material that would clean up easier. Otherwise I'll try the ziplock method.

Don't think I've ever had an ashtray ever soak up any smells. I have two or three that I use and 2 others that I leave on the coffee table as eye candy. When I'm done I have all my ashtrays inside on the coffee table.

All the ashtrays I use/have coated in glaze. Is yours shiny or flat in its finish?

On the other hand, I've never picked up my ashtray and smelled it but all my friends are non-smokers and never say anything about the room smelling of burnt cigars. I do occasionally smoke inside and the smoke doesn't linger either (probably due to the leather couches and hardwood floors).

My ashtray is flat finished and hand painted. I wanted to find an easier way to clean it because if I scrub it the paint sometimes scrapes off and makes the ashtray look worse and worse. Might just be a terrible ashtray to use as an ashtray.

On this one cleaning show I watch the women after washing the ashtray and drying it spray the ashtray with a a lemon furnisher polish and they say to just let it dry. They say it cleans up essayer and it wont smell. I have never tried this and I would be careful of getting the polish where your cigar will rest.

Bluesmudge, I recommend you build a separate house just for smoking. Or just get new friends.

Seriously, does bleach not take the smell out? I realize it's a pain, but at some point, a line has to be drawn: either you make the extra effort to mask the cigar smell or your friends will have to accept that you smoke cigars and put up with it.

I shoot Fabreeze around my metal free standing ashtrays. I find it works great.

are you putting out your cigars or are you letting them burn out?

it will stink if you don't let them burn out. never put them out like a cigarette just push them to the center of the ash tray and let them go out on their own. switching form cigarettes to cigars i was making this mistake, old habits die hard.

as for ashtray's i prefer a lead crystal one something around 8 inches across and heavy so it don't have much of a chance getting tipped over.
