Thread: A small intro

    Default A small intro

    Hey guys,

I wasn't entirely sure where to post this up but I guess if it's in the wrong section a mod can move it, if they don't mind.

I'll start off by introducing myself. My name is Nector, no it's not a typo that's my real name. I live in North NJ. I work for a small dental ceramics company that is owned by a larger ceramics company, as a Quality Control Technician. I'm 21 years old, I go to school part time for Mechanical Engineering at NJIT (I've taken the last 2 semester off due to financial reasons). I rent a small apartment in Newark, but I hope to soon move somewhere a bit safer.

I joined up mostly because of my interest in cigars. I smoked my first ISOM a few years back, TBH i can't recall the brand/style but ever since then I've been wanting another. I'm looking into buying a small humi very soon and diving right in starting with the newb sample thread :). I smoke Djarum blacks, bali hai's and a few others I can't think of the name to ATM. I recently had a Portofino that was god awful, I couldn't even finish it it taste like dry wood with no flavor despite it's wonderful aroma.

I also run a local car forum called NJTuners.com. It's a small community, much like this one, dedicated to changing the local view of the import car scene.

I think that pretty much sums it up.

Welcome! Get the biggest humidor you can afford because it will be full in like two months!
Even on my student budget and short time in the hobby I've already purchased close to 75 cigars even though I only smoke about once a week! You may fall victim to the same slippery slope, as it seems most do.

Ahh, I understand this. Should have talked to some FOGs before I bought my 40-50ct humi. Right now, I can't justify a bigger one though, because it would eat into cigar money. And I'd rush to fill it up too! Budgeting is important

I've been looking at a few smaller 15-30ct ones at the not so local b&m. I'm most likely going to end up buying something closer to a 30ct humi. I know I might get a little carried away with the purchasing, but If I end up with more cigars than I can smoke, I'll just invite a few friends over and have some with them, I mean "what's a stick or two between friends." :D

You need to invest in a decent sized humidor, or go with a coolidor for that matter.

You will find out, like a lot of us have, that a 100 count humidor will take maybe 70 sticks once you add your RH/temp gauge and some sort of humidification device. The coolidor is cheaper compared to the humidor plus you get a crazy amount of room.

And finally, welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum from N. VA.

The previous posts are some good advice, if your serious about this hobby make the initial investment for a coolidor w/ RH beads (possibly cheaper than what your going to spend for a 30ct at a B&M).
