Avalon Pass reviews
Smoke: Avalon Masters Honeyboy Edwards ~ Robusto
Drink(s): Porter
Tunes: None
Wrapper: Cameroon
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: DR, Honduran, Nicaragua
Draw: Medium
Burn: Splitting problems
Misc: 60+ minutes
Pre-light: Orange shiny band & sheath over foot. Medium brown wrapper. Sweet tobacco scent & I guess a pecan wood smell (I haven’t smelt any pecan wood lately to compare). No Prelight taste.

Light: Took some effort, as it really wanted to blaze up at the foot. I had to keep the lighter pretty far away.
1st 3rd: Spicy. Different. Has a woodsy flavor to it with a bit of oil. Is not a sharp pepper taste, but more of a hot pepper residual roast in the mouth. Sweet tobacco taste on the exhales.

Ash: Medium gray. Actually looks pretty strong. Holds on for over 2”

2nd 3rd: Unfortunately, I’m having wrapper splitting troubles. Popped a nasty split right after logging the 1st 3rd. We’ll manage. Spice is less now, but still there. Sweet, woodsy. Medium body, medium flavor.

3rd 3rd: Alas, the split followed me the whole way. I didn’t really notice it affect the flavor. Woodsy dominant. Nice flavors. 1 dimensional to me.

Overall impression: I got this as a “take” from the Budget Box Pass 2009. It was a put by some raging asshole. Pretty neat smoke. Not available anymore, which is a bummer. Near the end of the smoke, I was reading some other Avalon reviews on here, and noticed that others had split issues / burn problems. Maybe resulting from manufacturing in the early stages of Avalon cigars. I dunno. I don’t think my humi is too “moist” but it sure seemed like it was a classic “too wet, binder expanding” wrapper split problem. I noticed a double fold in the binder where the split was occurring…
