    Default Rocky Patel 1961 Robusto

My wife surprised me with this cigar to celebrate being done with studying for that test. I finally got around to smoking it the other night and figured I would share my thoughts. I am a total newb so I am still having trouble figuring out all the flavors...

    Appearance/Construction: A-
A great looking cigar; dark wrapper, light veins and nice looking bands. Great construction; felt tight and had no unwrapping issues at all.

    Burn/Draw: B+
Lit up easily and burned great the whole way through, no re-lights or touch-ups needed, didn't even have to make sure I was rotating it properly. Draw was fantastic and stayed consistent.

    Ash/Smoke: B
Ash held for a good 1.5 inches, light grey and nice and tight. The smoke was thick, but not as "aromic" as I had hoped.

    Flavor: B
Pre-light draw was peppery and maybe a little sweet. First third had that semi-sweet taste with what I think might have been nutty (or maybe I am nutty). The pepper taste was there too, but not as strong as the pre-light. The main flavor would probably be considered "earthy" or "woody". The second and last thirds were about the same, with less sweetness. The cigar was pretty steady as far as taste goes.

    Overall: B+
I liked this cigar and would buy one to smoke again. The taste wasn't fantastic, but in my limited experience it is in the top 5%. I had the smoke outside in my backyard sitting next to my fire pit with some jazz in the background - perfect night to enjoy a RP.

Yeah I saw that sampler that you are looking to get - that looks like a pretty nice sampler and now I am having to fight the urge to add more to my collection...

Next up from RP for me is the Decade, that looks/sounds like a great smoke!

Thanks, when you smoke one let me know what you think about it - I am curious as to how well my taster works.
