    Default Longterm single-stick ziplock sotrage

So, I'm at work now and I had planned on leaving a little early and catching the early bus. Well, a few last-minute calls later and it's too late. Next bus comes an hour and a half later. Some times like these I wouldn't mind having a cigar to pass the time.

It would be rare for such an occasion to arise where I'd want an unplanned cigar and not be able to get home, so a humidor or even tupperdor with a humidifier seems unnecessary.

Would it work to store an individual cigar in its own ziplock indefinitely? I was thinking I could keep the ziplock opened in the coolidor for a little while, then immediately seal in a cigar with a little humidified air. The bag would not be opened again until the stick was ready to smoke.

The bag should be airtight, right? So, if it never gets opened, shouldn't the cigar within stay at the right humidity?

The only problem I can foresee is that cigars should be allowed to breathe fresh air every once in a while. So, for how long would it be okay to keep it like this?

Get a 5 count, and 5 Monte Media Noche cigars. Looks like a good deal. The 5 count traveldor usually goes for 20 bucks itself.

Yup, and I really enjoy the Media Noche's as well. Plus, that 5 count is perfect for throwing in the golf bag, or backpack, or canoe, or whatever you need a cigar to do.

Also keep in mind that when you talk about humidity with cigars, you're always talking about "relative humidity" or "RH." Relative to what? Relative to temperature.

The short version is, as the temperature changes in your zip-lock bag, the RH also changes, and if it gets cool enough, water can actually condense out of the air in the bag in little droplets on your cigar, just like morning dew on the lawn. No good.

The long version goes something like, air has a different ability to "hold"* water at different temperatures and pressures. The warmer it is, the more water the air can hold. So when you hear "70% relative humidity" what that means is that the air is at 70% saturation AT A GIVEN TEMPERATURE. If it gets a little warmer, the moisture capacity of the air increases, and the RH drops (for a given moisture content, or absolute humidity). If it cools, the moisture capacity DECREASES, and the RH rises until it hits the limit for that temperature, and the water vapor condenses into liquid water.

It's not very likely that this would happen in a zip lock bag (considering, as noted before, they are air-permeable), but it's a possibility if, for example, you were to transition from a hot outdoor bus stop to a cold air conditioned bus.

*Technically, air doesn't "hold" water. Water vapor is simply a constituent part of air, just like nitrogen, oxygen, and other gases.

There's a 10ct xikar travel humidor on cigarmonster for 16.98 with free shipping for the next 2 + hours if your interested, seems like it'd fit the bill quite nicely.
