We don't have central air, either. However, I cannot imagine not running it when I'm not at home. That's a totally foreign concept to me. I turn it on in April, and it stays on through the end of October. I keep my humidor in a room with a north-facing window, that has both an air conditioning unit and a fan in the room. It just worked out that way for me.
There are alternatives for building coolerdors that will keep your smokes at a cooler temperature. Search for them in this forum.
Welcome from Hell.
When I was a kid, I loved bugs. Every time I saw one it meant I could punch one of my sisters without getting in trouble. Fantastic. But bugs that eat cigars...
Keep your humi in a room that does not go above say ~78F. Don't worry about the humidity in the room, it's the humidity in your humi that is important. Try to keep that humidity at 65-70% by using beads. As long as your humi is somewhat tight, you will be able to maintain a good humidity in it without having to replenish the beads too often.
Welcome to the forum, use search.
