    Yeah, You can get a nice pipe for the cost of a piece without the work.

    Unless you have a killer source for briar, you really won't save any money. Add to that the difficulty of briar to work, making your own can be a cool conversation piece but far more of a pain in the ass than it's worth.

    Yeah, I have no intention of making my own pipe....ever. I just thought it was a cool read about the source & manufacture of the raw briar.

    I'd like to try it sometime but I'm no woodworker so I need to get some really cheap pieces to destroy before I stumble into making something usable.

    I want to try to make a pipe out of juniper wood... I think it would be interesting. I also thought of making one in cherry wood.

    Very cool post. Might be worth looking into. I'm a horrible woodworker, but it would be fun.
