looking for a golf cigar

I’m looking for some recommendations on a good cheep cigar to hit the links with. I have been looking at the Padron Fuma and the Fuente Curly Head and I was wondering if any one had any input on those cigars. I’m basically just looking for a good cheep cigar under $5 a stick or arround $50 a box. The cigar doesn’t have to be anything special just not a complete piece of crap. Of late I have been smoking the Cohiba Pequenos and Partagas Black Label Prontos. I’m just looking to find a longer smoke. Thanks

I can't speak about the "curly-head" as I've never had it, but I've had the Padron Fumas before. I wrote up a brief review on my blog. I remember it having a nice and rich taste to it. There was no bitterness if I remember right. It also had a decent draw and there were no burn or wrapper issues at all. The only bad things I remember was that the wrapper was quite gnarled and ugly to look at. But once again, if you're just looking for a golf-gar, this would be a good one. Let me also recommend the LVH fumas which is cheaper and just as good in taste IMHO.

Granted, I'm not a golfer, although I like being on a golf course and preferably hammered (that's the Rodney Dangerfield in me) but I can't understand why some folks want to smoke a cheap cigar while golfing. Actually, why does anyone want to smoke a cheap cigar?

I assume you enjoy golfing. Why ruin the time with a cheap cigar? By cheap I mean two to three dollars a smoke.

Fuente Curly Heads are one of the worst cigars you will ever smoke. Their primary use is for newborn hand-outs where most folks won't even smoke them.

Go ahead! SPLURGE! Spend a few extra bucks and buy a box of Fuente Double Chateaus or a box of Puros Indios. Heck, get a bundle of La Unicas. Still Fuente, a great mild smoke and affordable. Ususally around $70 for twenty.

OK, can't bear to do it? In my opinion in the years I have been smoking I have come upon a few cigar lines that are inexpensive but worth smoking. Consuegra - Roly and Maria Mancini. That's it. So far anyway.

Can anybody recommend a cigar for when I'm making Fettucini Alfredo?

La Vieja Habana 'Fumas' are BAD cigars. Do yourself a favor and don't listenen to SFG75. He has a reputation here for singing high praises for what are usually pretty lousy cigars.

But I would guess that you may be thinking why smoke an expensive cigar when you're golfing because you're not concentrating on it and it stands a good chance of getting ruined while you're trying to concentrate on golf.

For very low end smokes, I recommend Consuegras and Cuba Aliados. There are some nice hand made short filler Cuban cigars that are less than $50.00/box like Quintero Breavas and Troya Corona Club Tubulares.

how long do you want the smoke to last? for 9 holes or a full 18? i haven't tried any will golfing yet, so i'm not sure what i like will doing so.

I enjoy a good smoke too but I was just wondering because I'm already spending a lot on greens fees and I think that these are good brands (I have been pleased with the 8-5-8, Opus X's, 1964's, and 1926's) to try their cheep ones to sort of off set the whole golfing cost since I'm working with a college students budget. Thanks for the recommendations. I have been reading some of the retarded shit that SFG75 posts and ignored his post because his own link had two people trashing it and his review wasn’t to positive either I will try to hunt down some of the cigars that you two guys mentioned. Thanks

Ps. I’m also usually bombed so might as well smoke some thing a little cheaper and save the good ones for later.

Well of late I have been smoking the smaller cigars made by Partegas and Cohiba and the occasional CAO Gold corona gorda. I usually play 9 and will go through like 3 of the smaller tinned cigars, maybe one or two robustos and one Churchill sized cigar. Smoking on the golf course is different then at home. I enjoy it but it’s a different kind of enjoyment then when I'm at home on the deck. You defiantly can’t concentrate on it as much so don’t go out there when you are trying a cigar for the first time. In my opinion it just completes the whole golfing experience and it make golfing even more relaxing for me. Just my .02.

If you have tried Indos Puros and like them then give the Puros Roly's a try. They usually run about 2:50 for a churchill. Also the 3X3 davidoff seconds are good for golf. They run about 2.99 for a churchill. I trend towards the bigger cigars for golf because I generally have to put it down about 98 times +/-.

Those 3X3's are not a bad cigar - nor are the SB's (Special Blend) or the PS (Private Stock). All are reasonably priced smokes and have a good flavor to them. They're made by the same people that make AVO, Griffin, Davidoff, etc. You don't have to worry about ruining them, and they won't kill the budget.

The Helix is a good golf car - as are the Macanudo Portofino's. They're on the milder side, but that's okay when you're not concentrating on taste. The prices aren't bad either.
