Thread: Seasoning and My Humi...

Thumbs up Seasoning and My Humi...

I seasoned my 100 ct humidor for a week. I live in Philly. I currently have heartfelt beads in the humidor and my humidor is at 67 Degree F and 78% RH. I am using a Savoy digital hygrometer.

Is it safe to put in my cigars in my humidor at this point? I have been searching on this forum trying to see if anyone else has asked this same question. Thanks for any help!

    Did you calibrate the hygrometer?

If there is a calibrate button, it likely sets itself to 75% RH when you do the salt test.

What % beads do you have?

I think it's safe. Check the beads to see if they're over saturated (all clear beads.) If not, you're good.

I am using a Savoy Digital which does not have a calibration button. I am using the 65% RH Heartfelt Beads and they do not appear to be over-saturated. I should be getting a second digital today do I will compare the humidity level. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I don't use them, but folks on here swear by the accuracy and consistency of the beads. If they're not over-saturated, I'd trust that everything is fine.

When you get the new hygrometer, make sure you calibrate with the salt test.

Don't be surprised if the hygrometer reads low for a couple weeks, the interior surface of the humidor may still be equalizing the moisture level.

I generally consider my hygro's to be "ballpark" the beads and commercially available gel jars are all pretty spot on. The beads shouldn't be clear and shinny but a little foggy and dry. If so, you're good.

    Thumbs up

I am currently at 68 Degrees F and 67 RH after putting in my cigars. I currently have crystals with humidor solution, the 65 heartfelt beads, and 4 packets of the 69 boveda packets. I think it's a bit over-kill but I am sure I will just stick with the heartfelt beads after a few months. Thanks for your help.

Very overkill. I'd take it all out except for the beads.
