Still nothing yet... maybe UPS is running late today.

The wifey and I went up to Pinetop over the weekend to escape the heat and get a couple honey-do's done up there. On the way up I successfully acquired the attention of Mammoth's finest for like the 20th time in my life - this time it was 67 in a 55. I probably account for 85% of the town of Mammoth's annual income. The extremely humble officer was kind enough to give me a 5 minute lecture on how to properly pull my vehicle over to the side of the road the moment I see his pretty flashing lights (I had the audacity to go an extra 50 feet for what I deemed to be a safer pullout) - apparently he wanted to risk getting nailed by one of the other 7,000 people who were doing 67 right along with me. Not sure why I got chosen, probably something to do with my 90's boy-band good looks. After the pull-over lesson he informed me that he would be the nicest guy in the world and write me up a whole 2 MPH less (I think those radar guns are only accurate to within 5 anyway) - which means I only have to pay the fantastic town of Mammoth a couple hundred dollars and worry not about points on my license since I was no longer a speeder, but a "waster of finite resources". He went back to his car to give me a couple minutes so I could explain to the wifey how I would fight the ticket by showing that my vehicle gets better gas mileage at 67 than at 55, and that the "finite resource" is not wasted, but efficiently used to transport me from Armpit to Paradise. Besides, the "resource" is not necessarily "finite" - since we have technology available to allow production of fuel from the carbon monoxide in the air (I think it's called Fischer-Tropsch). Sure it is super expensive right now, but the ticket isn't for "unnecessarily over-using an expensive-to-replenish resource". The first witness I would call to the stand would be the 1st Law of Thermodynamics. So anyway the wifey told me that I was a "dork" and to "shut up and be nice to the officer". A couple minutes later he came back and proudly told me that he'd make me a deal - if I promised to slow down, he'd let me off with a warning. I guess he had already met his quota. I set the cruise to 66 and we continued north. I scraped/sanded/painted the fascia at the front and the railings on the back deck. I successfully spilled paint on my shoes and most of the roofing tiles, so that was nice - and the beautiful blue skies waited a whole 9 hours before unloading 18 inches of torrential rain. It was cool though cause I felt like doing 8 coats of paint anyway. Otherwise the weather was really nice up there, but no fireworks even though the Wallow Fire pretty much already torched everything for us. Fireworks equal felony, so we suppressed the desire to light things on fire and went for a nice Mexican dinner instead. Any restaurant you go to up there if you're a firefighter you get free food - but oddly enough they could care less if you're a fire protection engineer.

    But I digress.
