Oh lordy. You're not talking about "Chicago" that you can get at Harbor Freight? I had a chorded hammer drill from them (my dad got me for some reason) that lasted about 1 job before the guts grenaded in it.

I like rechargeable. I like chorded too. There's a time and a place for both.

The one and the same. I've never used a hammer drill, but I have a saw from there - I'll see if I can find it - and it was perfect. Smooth cuts every time, never any problem. Maybe it's a cheap piece of shit, but it's one of my favorites for cutting.

What kind of power drill do you guys use? I use a cheapie Black & Decker I bought years ago - it does the trick, but it's failed me on a few jobs where either precision really counted, or I couldn't afford to have the bit slip (mine doesn't tighten with a chuck). My dad has a great old-school chuck tightening drill with a frame, so that you can use it as a drill press if you need to. Too bad he's now 2300 miles away.

Still no cigars (except for these surprise Tats that arrived last week that I've been smoking).

I have a Craftsman corded drill that I use every now and then, but I find the cordless to be more convenient and the one I usually reach for.

I also need to get a new belt sander.

Doesn't the battery always run out of juice at inappropriate times? I don't own a belt sander - I can never keep the sandpaper on the belt evenly, it always comes off on one side or the other. What brand do you have?

Yes the battery runs out but with my old cordless (which died) I had two batteries so on the larger projects where battery life was an issue the battery swap seemed to work out pretty well. Plus, dead battery = beer break.

Come to think of it, I did have one problem with it - that little bag wasn't working right, so that came off almost immediately. I have a few other tools where there's a bag to catch sawdust, but I'd just as soon rip them off, as they either are faulty engineering and don't do what you need them to, or just get in the way. The only sawdust bag that works in my garage is for this table saw that I have.

Yeah, those bags are pretty much a joke. I have a cardboard box under my table saw. Works good.

When I can, anymore, I sand / plane / joint etc. outside so I don't have to give a shit about the dust.

My miter / chop saw is some no-name thing from wifey's dad. Works good. It'd be nicer if it was a compound miter.
