got some lenght-wise splitting : ay advice?

i recently installed a le veil humidifier, it seems to be doing the job (70' hum, my meter agrees) but i've had a couple of cigars split lenghtwise in the wrapper...not all, just 2 out of 9 brands...i dont know why...any ideas

Welcome to the board. I find that wrapper splitting is more often than not related to the RH of the cigar being too high, or at least the filler is more moist than the wrapper.

Sometimes though, it is due to construction .....but if it spans several marca's it is less likely.

It could have something to do with the local humidity when smoking too, but I can't comment on that since I don't know where you are, or who you are. You know,all the things that are usually found in an introduction post.

Did you drop the cigars prior to smoking from a considerable height? The hardness of the surface they strike sometimes has an effect.

Not sure, sounds like the inside is swelling up and splitting the wrapper. But why I don't know. Unless the cigars were store two wet then moved into a really dry enviro and the wrapper dried first and fast making it brittle.

Just to make sure we're not missing the obvious, you could try only cutting the cap of the cigar, and not cutting down the length of the cigar before you light it. Just sayin'.

This usually happens from humidity levels rising to quickly. You have to be very careful when going from passive humidification to an active system. This has happened numerous times at my store. Every single time it was cigars that arrived a little to dry and they were placed open next to one of the humidifiers. As stated earlier in the thread, it forces a rapid expansion of the fillers and causes the tobaccos to swell and split the wrapper.
