Written French is incredibly difficult, but very precise - I expect people to make grammatical errors, but I do expect what is written to be able to be understood.
With English, writing is comparatively easy, but the meaning can be difficult to decipher. People do make allowances for people whose first language isn't English, e.g., "from times to times" is a classic <faux amis> for Francophones - 'from time to time' is correct. I wouldn't expect anyone to make an issue with that example. However, when the meaning is confused, then correction will probably be given or requested.
Mind you, if everyone could write in Chinese, then we wouldn't be having this discussion - pretty much any spoken language can be written in Chinese.
