I have to reboot my computer every time I want to use it. The monitor keeps blacking out. Thats why I need to upgrade from my 7 year old gateway.

Turn off all power saving crap " sleep / hybernate anything like that " and screen savers don't let the monitor go to sleep or blank out.
Sounds like a software problem i would not replace it just yet untill i rules out a software problem.
