Thread: Looking for a travel humidor

  1. Cool Looking for a travel humidor

Can someone recommend a reliable way to transport my smokes? Something to protect them from damage and keep them in good smoking condition for a couple of weeks while travelling?

I got something that looked good from an online retailer but when I opened it up for the first time I noticed a nasty chemical smell which I assume was from the foam lining. I sent it back.

You could have gotten replacement foam. But how many are you talking? A small travel for 2-5, or something that would hold about 10 or more?

Get yourself an Otterbox. You can find them pretty cheap at cbid. Throw in a couple Boveda packs and you're good to go.

I would be looking to accomodate a dozen or so robusto/corona sized smokes. Am I being too picky? Do you think the chemical-ly smell would have dissipated eventually? I certainly don't want to contaminate my cigars. I wouldn't want to smoke anything that smelled like that.

No, you are not being too picky. I would never store my cigars in anyting that might impart an odor to them.

Otterbox is the way to go. They have 5 or 6 different sizes of their cigar caddys at decent prices.

Pellican also makes them. I've got one order, hasn't come in yet. Not sure what the difference is.

i use a smaller tupperware with folded up papertowel to keep the cigars from moving around much and i keep a small prescription bottle with some beads in it for humidity....

Otterbox. I'd get a large one like the one pictured above. Mine is a model 5200. The one in that photo is a 5500 which is just about the same dimensions as mine. I opted for black, yellow is too gay and that orange isn't much better

Full list is $59.95 but I think I got mine for less than $40.00. I can't remember where though. It was either that bargain humidor place or one of the big internet cigar retailers like Famous-Smoke.

    So OK then.

This morning I learned that I had won my bid on cigarbid for a 5 count Otterbox complete with five cigars (the "Cuban-esque Sampler") for somewhere in the region of $25 including shipping. Quite the deal.

Good tip on the Boveda pack but I think I'm going to go with the DryMistat humidification device the guy at my local smoke store recommended. Shame they don't make a 65% version. That's a definite selling point for the Boveda pack.

I have a Czonka traveller, holds 5 and has done me well. I believe that they do bigger sizes, but for economy I will have to try the tuperware route. I reckon two, with one inside the other with padding and piercing in the inner and bead bag on the outer would probably work quite well (or the reverse).
