In my short experience I have found that removing a cigar from the humidor and placing it in a non humidified box for a day or two helps prevent that. I think it's called dry boxing. I use a nice cedar lined box that a shipment of sticks came in.
Yep, dry-boxing works....so does keeping your rh closer to 65%. I prefer the taste and smoking characteristics at the lower rh levels.
High humidity was a mistake I made early. It made for lots of hard to keep lit, quick to get bitter, wrapper splitting, mediocre smoking experiences.
63-65 gives me good times.
