I have noticed in recent times it carries on - you're either "Android" or you're "iOS", but not both... I even see folks evangelizing, trying to convince folks one is better than the other (It's rather comical, actually). But - personally - plain and simple - I dislike certain operating systems (choose one over another) because I don't like the way they do what they do - good, bad or otherwise.

I still primarily use MS (work) - spend a fair amount of time in iOS (play) - AND - use Linux/UNIX when it serves my purpose (mostly work - I've kinda moved away from my "hobby" use)...
Damn, you must be old!

I missed out on CPM and started in DOS........but then, I was a late bloomer and didn't get into computers until I was already 30 so that could be why too.

I'm stuck using MS as my main OS at home because I do enjoy gaming on my computer and most games just aren't ported to Linux. I still have a Linux box, and XP box and a UNIX box running in my home office. Each serves it's function. The UNIX box is a router/firewall, the Linux box a server and the XP I just kept around because it's my old gaming rig and I can't just toss it after all the years and upgrading so it's my TeamSpeak server........LOL

I have issues with each OS. If someone could magically combine all the best features of each together into one, I think we'd have a winner. Better yet, give me the OS they use in the computer on Star Trek!
