Well, I usually sip cigars - draw in a little smoke, let it roll around my mouth, then exhale slowly to get the most enjoyment out of the taste - but there are many ways to do it, you have to find they way you like best. Others like to leave the cigar in their mouth while they smoke, I do not, as they get all wet and I hate that.
There's only two kinds of cigars, the kind you like and the kind you don't.
What about health risks?
As I said before, I've yet to try a cigar. In fact, I've never smoked anything in my entire life. If/When I try a cigar, I'd like it to be a long cigar. But I'd only smoke them very occasionally - maybe even less than once a month.
Would even that damage my health? And would I become addicted to cigars?

Because you don't inhale cigars, less nicotine is absorbed and there is less of a chance you'll get addicted to them that way. A friend of mine used to smoke cigs and when he lights up a cigar he will inhale for the first few hits then puff the rest of the cigar for a little nicotine fix before he enjoys the cigar itself.

My opinion is, if you smoke them in a well ventilated area(ie: outside) then it doesn't affect your health at all. In my eyes, it's on par with sitting infront of a fire every night and smelling the smoke it creates. No one ever mentions the health drawbacks of thatI also don't think you would become addicted even a little bit....

Smoking anything is a health risk, period. Smoke is bad for you, period. If you want to smoke, you have to come to terms with that.
That being said, cigar smoking habits tend to be less addictive than cigarrettes. This has to do with innumerable differences like frequency of smoking, inhaling, etc. Since cigar smoke isn't inhaled, it poses far less of a lung cancer and emphysema risk. But, since there is more tobacco, the tobacco is fermented, the smoke is unfiltered, and the contact time in the mouth is greatly increased, the risks for mouth and throat type cancers is greatly increased.
Don't think that it's impossible to become addicted to cigars or get cancer from them. It's very possible. If you want to smoke, simply smoke in moderation. In other words, don't smoke 5 a day, every day. I smoke about three or four a week. I make it a special occasion thing, like drinking alcoholic beverages. This also helps keep the cost reasonable.![]()
Don't forget, real cigars, good cigars, are pure tobacco and don't have all of the additives and chemicals that cigarettes do.
I have to agree with Superman, the only addictive part of cigars that I have found is buying them. I get deliveries at least once a week.Originally Posted by superman78
I only inhale one puff off of every cigar. I need that beloved jolt I used to get from cigarettes, but couldn't handle inhaling every puff off of a cigar. I probably average five cigars a day. I wonder what the cancer risk from that is compared to two packs of cigarettes per day. There's so much false science being produced on everything related to smoking, we may never know for sure.
If I am going to die, it is going to be doing something I love. If I don't die trying to put out a huge ass fire...I better die with a cigar in my hand!
