Pres. Bush signed into law the new CAFTA bill that eliminates any trade restrictions and creates a free trade pact with Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic

Hey, most of my favorite cigars come from there! And once Castro dies maybe Cuba can join also.

Don't bet on it. The P/C posse will figure out a wa to exempt tobacco products. THEY NEED TO PROTECT US!

I am with you, I hope that prices go down, my favorite cigars are from Honduras (Hoyo De Monterrey- maduro) It would be great if I could get them for cheaper. It would be also great if Cuban cigars were actually worth a shit.

Now you got my hopes up for lower cigar prices, but I have a feeling tobacco will be exempted. Even if it isn't, expect lawmakers to make up any cost difference with a hike in tobacco taxes.

Well, one source of hope is that since cigarette sales dwarf all other tobacco sales combined, maybe they will miss cigar/pipe smokers and focus on cigarette smokers. That seems to be what is happening here in Texas, at least tax-wise. Several huge increases in taxes on cigs in recent history, but tax on cigars is still 1.1 cents per stick.

Here in Wash. State, the tobacco tax was 130 % until july 1st when it went down to 40 %. I don't think that the tax covers cigarettes which have their own set of taxes. I am very thankful to the ligislature here because the store where I have bought singles has been able to triple their selection and inventory. I hope that this elimination of trade restrictions on (specifically cigar-producing countries oddly enough)brings the prices here into an even more reasonable range. I like to support the live stores if I can instead of just buying online. Good times here.

Even though Cigar manufacturers use almost zero pounds of US grown tobacco, Cigar manufacturers willll be required to pay a share of the US farmer buyout program.
