ISOM Alternatives?

Hi,

Given that I live in the UK and ISOMs are easy to get hold of, that is what I usually smoke. I will be visiting the USA (MD and upstate NY) in a couple of weeks and I am wondering what cigars available there will be equivalent to what I smoke at the moment.

Right now my favoured cigars are:
Cohiba Siglo 1 & Robusto
Montecristo #2
San Crystobal Fuerza & Principe
Punch Punch Punch
RyJ Coronitas Cedro

Given that I like these, what would you guys suggest from the branda that are availabkle in the US?

To be honest, I was looking at expanding my horizons. ISOM may be easy to get over here but they sure aren't cheap. For example the Siglo 1s (Perla) are about £140 a 25 cnt box even when I get them from Spain or Portugal. So you could say that I am looking at capitalising on the strength of the pound at the moment and saving some money.
Ideally I want to bring 50-100 sticks home with me.

I would invest in the Punch or the Romeo y Julieta. Also, Hoyo De Monterrey are a fav.

Let me suggest Padron Anniv, Perdomo Reserve La Tradicion Champagne. My first reccomendation would be Luna de Luna but they are the best LaLuna cigars that you cannot get.

Why oh why use this "ISOM" thing? Why not call them "Cubans"? They may be banned in the US but surely not the name!

Yeah I would try different Perdomo's, Padron's and an Opus, if you can find them. If you get into the opus or the anniv. Padrons they will end up costing at least if not more than cubans at home.

Just trying to be polite, as a newbie I don't want to step out line if I can help it. To be honest the term confused me to begin with, had to check a glossary .

What sort of prices are we talking about for the suggested sticks?

The average perdomo and padron should be under 10, the 1964 anniv around 15-16, the 1926 anniv will probably run in the $20's and the Opus, I have seen those from 12 to 30 depending on the size.


But, as with most goods, depends on supply and demand in the market your buying them in. If you getting them at the only cigar shop in a couple hundred miles you wiil pay more than if there are a few in the same town.

The 1926s DO NOT have the word "Anniversary" in their name. The proper name is "Padron 1926 Serie"

Opus X, Padron 1964 Anniversary & Padron 1926 Serie, and Davidoff are all very hard to find but these are the four brands I recommend that you look for.

Where exactly will you be staying in the states? Because we'll need to direct you to certain cigar shops if you're going to be trying to purchase those hard to get cigars.

Oh and as far as the whole "ISOM" thing, there are many cigar boards out there that absolutely despise that slang term and members of those boards tear into people who call Cuban cigars "ISOMs" I prefer to call them "Cuban cigars" of "Havanas"
