Thread: It is a Man's World....

  1. Exclamation It is a Man's World....

    Hey All;

I just thought I'd get your opinion on this. It seems that this forum is completely populated by Men. With the exceptioin of Amanda and Sophie (Who seems to have left us), there seem to be very few female cigar lovers. Is this opinion shared by you guys (or ladies).

P.S. Hey Amanda and Sophie, I would really appreciate your opinion.

    Thanks

Yeah I have noticed that as well. Sophie's occasional pic was better than a cup of coffee in the morning.

I don't think we run them off but rather there are just not that many female cigar smokers. Also, generally, message boards of all topics that I have been a part of are almost 98% male members. Go figure.

Yeah...I think we need some more women on the boards. You just don't see many women smoking a fat cigar! I did get my best friends girlfriend into smoking. I got her to smoke a nice Padron #2000 maduro. It was great!

Cigar smoking has always been a primarily male passtime. Most women don't even like full flavored cigarettes! My wife smokes light cigarettes and HATES it when I smoke cigars. Certain flavors just don't appeal to women. Bourbon and Scotch are two drinks you won't find popular with women.

In my experience, smokey flavors don't seem to appeal to women. The girls I've known never liked smoked meat or fish much. Neither have they seemed to like strong brewed cofffee.

I can't remember her name, but someone with a very striking avatar of a woman smoking cigars used to post here (was that Sophie?). I clicked on a link in her sig and it took me to a porn site, which made me kinda suspicious, kinda like the whole thing was just a hook to get us mostly male cigar smokers to go to that porn site....
There's only two kinds of cigars, the kind you like and the kind you don't.

Believe it or not, Sophie was actually interested in the Cigar Forum... There was a whole discussion on whether it was really her and after some custom photography, it was actually her!

She was actually an avid poster for a while, then she disappeared.

Most females I know just never seem to have taken to cigars. My roommate and best friend Danielle has tried a few cigars with me since I've started smoking them, and although she doesn't hate them, she doesn't find the appeal either. A few other of my girlfriends have tried them on nights out and the feedback was generally negative. I suppose the rich flavor of cigars isn't for everybody, and there's an image issue for most women as well. I've always been one who has kind of enjoyed turning heads, so the image issue doesn't dissuade me but my girlfriends have seemed very uncomfortable smoking them, even in bars. They have that classic "what will people think if they see me" look. I think there's still a perception that cigar smoking is a macho guy thing that takes place on golf courses and poker games. To penetrate that club would be appealing to some women, but others seem unable to overcome the awkwardness. Honestly, I kind of look being the only girl in the room with a cigar as it gives me a little bit of edge...lol

I tried a couple cigars in my late teens and enjoyed them even then. It was only after I decided to quit smoking cigarettes, and was practically climbing the walls in despair, that I came up with regular cigar smoking as an alternative. It works for this girl, but I have yet to convert any other chicks to cigar aficianadoes. I'll keep trying though.

I caught a couple posts by Sophie right at the beginning of my tenure here. I'd like for her to return so we can dish a little bit. I have no problem being surrounded by testosterone, but this is a little ridiculous.

Maybe you lot are too young to remember, but back in the day for women cigar smoking usually went along with clipped, slicked back hair and a monocle.

    P.S. Sophie was a man.

Hey, I have Slicked Back Hair, (and thanks to a broken foot I am walking with a cain), but I dont see a monocle in my near future.........

I might get flamed for saying so but for me women smoking cigars--or cigarettes for that matter--is like women boxing. I'm not going to say they shouldn't do it but I certainly don't want to have to watch.

Yikes, I didn't realize my dad joined this board!

Seriously though, I'm sensing most guys are probably with Corona Gigante and Superman 78 in turning up their noses at the sight of women smokers, particularly cigar smokers. I've been somewhat fooled by the male response to my cigar smoking thus far since it's mostly taken place in bars. For whatever reasons, the guys there overwhelmingly seem to like it as I have never been hit on in bars more than I have in the last eight months when I began smoking cigars. On the other hand, my days at the Iowa State Fair last week yielded an overwhelmingly negative response from both genders. Nobody verbally trashed me, but I could tell by the looks on their faces that I wasn't making any friends.

Thankfully, I know there's at least one guy who doesn't mind my cigar smoking, and I'm going out with him again tonight.

Also keep in mind ,that in a bar after a few drinks a lot of guys would compliment you on the horn growing out of your forehead ,to each his own so do what makes you happy

a women smoking a cigar would put off a feel of power, like she could and will beat me up. now im not a strong and powerful guy, but i feel a little bit of power when i have a cigar in my mouth. Most women also don't want to be the powerful person, they want the men to take charge in certain situations. That is my thought.
