Well, just for future reference for everybody, don't use a moistened rag to wet the inside of the humidor, it's not good for the wood to take in water directly like that, it can lead to mold. Now, to the red stuff coming off, it probably is some type of varnish or finish put on the wood, kiln dried cedar typically doesn't have any stain added, and so shouldn't color any wet rag. Redwood would do that naturally, because it is red-wood (ask Jaewing, he lives by the forests
). Anyway, there is probably something on the wood that shouldn't be. Not sure if it will effect your cigars, but most likely it will. From now on, to condition your new humidor, follow these directions:
